I had never been to the Midlands before, and enjoyed it during my recent stay for the Britfest - driving through the countryside was a great experience and really beautiful. Also, I was already forwarned about the distances between the venues and only planned on staying in London on Saturday and/or Sunday night, if at all. I am actually going to try to fly in and out of Birmingham airport instead of Heathrow. When I was there for the Britfest, I had to take a train from Birmingham to Gatwick, which was an absolute nightmare! Anyone who is leaving the day after Wolverhampton, as I am, will regret trying to fly out of Heathrow or Gatwick from there, because you will be on trains for two to three hours getting to the airport, only to endure a 7-9 hour flight. I thought I was going to die. Anyway, those from the US who haven't done their air travel reservations, I highly suggest this option. Also, as Mike Payne said, buy your rail tickets here. One way to Gatwick from Birmingham was 38 pounds!!! Ouch!!! Lolita --------------4DE2ACFB7861C48AB098C639--
