So I got tickets for the Oxford show. I would have been, as usual, in two minds, but my eldest wanted to go. And much as I hate the whole "Dad dragging his son to see his favourite band" feel of it, he does actually like Level 42. Plus he's not really old enough to go on his own, and I suppose I should be grateful that if I have to accompany him to see a gig it's one that I should enjoy myself (The Chinese Way notwithstanding). And let's be honest, much as I would have loved his first gig to be his favourite of all the artists with whom I've inculcated him since birth, the odds of Stevie Wonder ever playing live here again appear to be slim.

Anyway, my main reason for breaking my hibernation was to let people know that Laurence Cottle - a name perhaps not completely familiar to many, but one of Britain's most in demand session bass players - has a shedload of stuff available for free download (including two entire albums) at http://laurencecottle.com/listen/. Quite a lot of it is that pesky jazz stuff, but I'd be surprised if the bulk of readers here don't enjoy the track Bass Talk at least.
