Yes, there's a concert from march, 1981, that
has that (and Morning Silence) on it.

>>>>One more thing, best live Bass solo for me, live at Wembley video. Keep happy Colin>>>> I've been meaning to comment on the bass solos of late. Back in the "day" Mark would incorporate solos into music or have a really well structured piece. Of late it seems that he just get's up and jams and as brilliant as he is, it is sometimes flawed (See Live at Reading, Retroglide Tour, or Arundel (it's up on youtube). Anyhoo, I think as much as I still enjoy the band, their pinnacle was in the 80s (and the sky is blue by the way). >>>Extremely. And yet incredibly it's still about ten times more interesting than the actual motor racing. AG<<< That's funny. >>>I had a piece of spam e-mail from an account called thenightslasher @ yahoo.co.uk. It struck me that with a name like that he could be my nemesis, or possibly an evil equivalent from some parallel universe. AG<<< I find it curious that you think your equivalent from another universe is the evil one. >> From: Lolitaj @ aol.com <Lolitaj @ aol.com> However, even though I used the digest as my vehicle for communicating, which I recognize is a public forum, I clearly said I was talking to Doug. Therefore, the only person who has valid reason to object to how I expressed my words is Doug himself, << Note to newbies and others who may be toiling under a wee misunderstanding: writing to a public forum means your comments are open to response from one and all. Whining about it after the fact won't help. >> unless what I said was offensive, which it was not. << First of all, thank you very much for the invitation to lecture on the subject. The unconscious use of violent imagery that you and others spew out contributes to the spiralling increase of violence in this world. Persuasive undercurrents flow so deeply through language that most of us don't realize they're there. You may think you know what you're saying, but that's only part of communication. Another major part is the meaning that the listener/reader attributes to your words, and once you've hit that send button, you cannot control how people interpret what you've written. And a third portion is how, after enough repetition, things become normal and acceptable in everyday life. As an example, if somebody were to call you a "ho" today, you might think it's cute or whatever. But if somebody called you that 15 years ago, you'd think it incredibly rude. But "ho" as a word today still has a basis in abusing women for sex. Is that something that's okay in your world? It's not okay in mine! We should all try to identify the subtle assumptions built in to our normal ways of thinking. We should look at the bigger picture. >> it is more amusing to simply make fun of my, and others', word usage << Well, since you don't give any examples, I can't really make specific comments. But if people make amusing little typographical errors, I will indeed feel free to make silly remarks in the name of general entertainment. I'm pretty sure that most people get those jokes. And if someone, e.g. you, Lolita, seems oblivious as you perpetuate stereotypes or contribute to violence and hatred becoming commonplace and acceptable, then, yes, I will consider exercising my right to point it out. You may choose to feel all righteous and superior, or you may choose to think about what you wrote and how it both reflects and creates the world around you. Of all the words in your vocabulary, for that instance you chose to connect musicians to a world of crime, drugs, abuse, inequity, violence, and close-mindedness. Why? That's a serious question. Ask yourself why, and keep tracing that line of thought back as far as you can. When (if) you figure it out, tell all your friends. (And all you bored readers on the sidelines, ask yourself what is normal, how did it get to be normal, what are the meanings underlying normal, and how can you contribute to changing normal into something that's a positive influence for everybody, not just for a select few. Does the elevation of Britney and her ilk to icon status have to be normal? No! Does dehumanizing the pain and suffering of civilian casualties in a war zone by calling them "collateral damage" have to be normal? No!) Lolita, your level of self-awareness is indeed low. You have demonstrated that to us numerous times over the years. You seem to thrive in part on finding negative traits in others, although you fail to see that in yourself. In the past, when I've made pleasant comments in your direction, you've completely ignored me. And now, when you perceive something bad coming at your dimly-lit little corner of the world, you get all hoity-toity on me. Give me a break. ...Alex... | ||

| Hey gang, Sorry to have been so quiet, but I have been hard at work with no time to talk the last half of the week and then having too much time to think very much about mailing lists I subscribe to. I know there are some who will doubt that I can be busy at work, but really I have been... I am put myself on a moratorium from being a smart ass for at least one day as there has been a blow up recently about people who use sarcasm toward other people regarding their use of the language. I have to shamefacedly admit to wanting to ask 'Mary who' to a certain post, but I didn't get a chance to. Is that wrong or mean spirited? I wouldn't have meant it that way, but yet the person who posted the diatribe about making fun of others language abilities and what they type is right on. It doesn't matter what I think so much regarding that unsent post, it matters more how it is received or better yet perceived by other reading it. Granted people know that I post a lot and say silly things, but does that absolve me? I would say no.... So instead I will say to Willem and Kirsti.....Fantastic! I hope you have many years of wedded bliss with as many or as few or no little ones to have the pitter patter of little feet in your home. May you always be blessed in your married lives with the goals that you make for yourselves be attainable and the dreams that you have acheivable and the fantasies....well never mind. Now, on to my heroine Lolita and her not so secret admirer Alex. I wondered why Lolita would use the term gangstas when talking about A Capella music, but then here I am an unhip nearly 50 year old guy who would never use the word to describe something. But, and this is a big BUT I understood what she was saying and really had no problem with how she used it. Also, c'mon, emailing someone offline is an obvious request to not email them via the group. Or am I not being as literal as I ought to be (darn, it is hard not being a smart aleck!). And Alex, if you will remember, you posted something either this year or last year about how long you and Lolita had been simultaneous members of the group and that Lolita had never, ever, responded to anything you'd posted. I wonder if you're happy now that she has and I don't intend for that to be a smart ass question, I truly wonder if what you wanted was what you got? My friend AG makes some comments that one can agree or disagree with as one sees fit, BUT I will say that the folks who are lucky enough or better yet wealthy enough to make pilgrimages from various locations to see the music they want to see are, on occasion, a bit exclusive at times. But, I have always been the Bull in the China Shop and as long as I feel like I can contribute and heck sometimes even when I can't that won't stop me from posting stuff and remarking on various subjects. I can't speak for anyone else, but if I expected to get answers back on everything I've typed then I would be SORELY disappointed and probably have stopped posting or even being a member of this here group a long time ago. We're all different, we've have different experiences and we're all gonna react to stuff in our own way. I love the stuff that the people in the know or think they know post to the group. That is why I miss Mikey's posts (no matter how over the top he got), posts by Loz (where the heck IS he?) and all the other group members who used to post more often but for various reasons don't. Well, I have rambled on enough for the moment....I say bye bye, now. *foom* | ||

I will echo comments made about 750 CDs....wow, that is some definite
dedication! I've ordered a pioneer DVR-111 BK for my computer and can not wait until I get to install it and do some of my own burning of CDs. I have no idea what or how much burning of stuff I will actually do, but I can see some benefits to actually having a burner to burn my own photo discs from all those stupid little media cards that we use in our camera. I have the Manhattan Transfer Vocalese CD somewhere and it IS a fantastic album I have to say. Now that Lolita has mentioned that CD I have Birdland floating through my mind and I am singing softly the tune to myself. I guess I will hafta dig it out and listen to it once more with the added knowledge. I can also see that I am going to go look for a CD by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross just to get that flavor. I don't really have an album by Take 6, but I have heard enough of them guesting on various CDs that I have to know I would love one of their albums. That's it for now.....*Voooom* |
