Allo Mike

I would have to dispute that Paul Weller myth......I know he collects soul but one of the best in the UK ?. An acknowledged northern soul fan & collector, yes....but many many better collections around than his. A few great ones in your part of the world too.

A couple of recommends for the Stax, Philly stuff etc :-

The Whole Damn World Is Going Crazy - 21 Selected Stax-Heartmenders - German Stax CD 2004 (FANCD 6092-2)
According to the sleeve this was issued in Australia too - on Festival.....check it out - a great introduction to some lesser known Stax....

Tamla Motown - Connoisseurs Vol 1 & 2 - Spectrum CD's
Two compilations, worth listening to if you want to hear the BEST that Motown had to offer. For many years no-one was really allowed into the Motown vaults and we were constantly bombarded with the same rehashed compilations......thats all changed now.

The Spirit Of Philadelphia - Vol 1 & 2 - Expansion CD's
Music from the 70s, produced & recorded in and around Philly - like the Philly sound - you'll love these......

Cheers   Gareth

I wish I had more Stax, Philly, Atlantic and Motown
stuff in my collection but where to start?! I read
once that Paul Weller has one of the best soul music
collections in the UK. I've often wondered what's in
Mark's collection.
