"Which implies that The Garden is inferior? I haven't
got round to it, in spite of the those being two of my
favourite albums of recent years. Like most of my
album buying these days, a 12 to 18 month wait should
see it turn up on eBay in my price bracket."

I certainly think so. I would offer you an MP3 copy, but I really do think you can wait.

AG also wrote ..

"The mere mention of Sade is still enough to bring me
out in a cold sweat, but I'm wondering if the above
means I am not, as it's always seemed to me, the only
person to think that The Style Council were better
than The Jam. Our Favourite Shop is something of a
tour de force."

I'm relieved too. I never really saw the point of the Jam, I thought it was just a noise. But I never understood The Clash or the Stranglers either.

However, at the risk of some hate mail, I don't really see the point of Stevie Wonder either, apart from his part-time job as song writer for Incognito. But, I suppose as a Go West fan, my opinion shouldn’t offend anyone.

Doug's mention of Barry Manilow sparked this one - I happened across an old Donna Summer special in my collection the other day and listened to her version of Chopin's "Could it be Magic". What a very cool tune and covered (again) with a certain style by those Take That boys. (This is like blasphemy, isn't it ...?)

Finally, I was one of the grateful recipients of AG's Funk album and will dig out the song list over the weekend, unless someone else beats me to it.

Gang, all this talk of artists has invoked my continued promotion of a great player/songwriter that I have mentioned in the past.

The band was called Bullfrog and now Mark is on his own.  He is a fellow Canadian and very approachable.

If sufficiently intrigued, go to http://www.myspace.com/robertsonformerlyofbullfrog and check out at least the tune "20 years".  I love this tune.

Doug, I'm shocked you did not mention the Carpenters.

They say the 70's was the most popular era for music. I love funkyness, but I also love rock and am really surprised at the lack of rock discussion.

Doesn't anyone like Led Zeppelin? The Crunge is an interesting,  funky offering, not that I am overly fond of that particular tune.  What about Bowie? So many great albums I'm not sure I've ever seen mentioned here.

As a chronic late comer, I have recently discovered Tenacious D, which, to me is brilliant like Spinal Tap.

I have 2nd row floors for Rush September 22nd.  I grew up listening to and seeing Rush shows.  It has been...gulp...30 years since my last Rush show and I can't wait until Alex winks at me as he starts into Anthem.

I have to admit, since Doug began this whole honesty and repentance thing, that I told a lie back in 2000.  It was during the whole "what bass do I buy" thing. I still hold to my original premise.  But I said the Phil Kubicki Factor didn't play as well for the money as a cheaper Ibanez Sound Gear.  Since then (actually only months later) I bought another Kubicki Factor and that has been my one and only bass for 7 years now....so.....yes I'm a liar and a hypocrite.

Boy did I spell like a child back then....

Style Council:  Great band, love that stuff......but the bass player.....geez, settle down stationary boy!  I'm referring of course to his "stand in one place with one foot on the drum riser radiating more energy than most of the rest of the band" at Live Aid......Goofy, but I suppose very 80s, and when you love the 80s, you have to take the good with the bad.
