Lolita
question,
when you finish your 750 CD's,
can you come over to do mine?
I only have sort of 2000, plus
the same amount of vinyl...
But i'm sure there are tens of
people who have lots more...
if were looking for unknown
live tracks, it there someone who has a live track of Theme to
Margareth?

Hi all
Just watching some LFT videos and wondered if any of you appear in them,
there is a snippet of my receeding hair line in the Hot Water video. I also like
Mikes expression in the SAY video at the begining as Mark sings
"HOW" Mike looks away as if to say Dam his gonna start talking
to me, and what is Mark really thinking when he looks at Phil.
theres more! also like their punk rock dressing up in 'take
care of yourself' video, and why in Lessons in love are they not wearing hard
hats on a building site? One more thing, best live Bass solo for me, live at
Wembley video.
Keep happy

Read on if you are a fan of a capella or close harmony music [Take 6,
Manhattan Transfer, Rare Silk, New York Voices, etc.]. If not, feel free
to skip.
I thought I would take the time to explain who LH&R are, because if you
are fans of any of the above groups, you need to know the foundation of the
music - the group that started it all by revolutionizing ensemble jazz
vocals. They are the equivalent of Miles Davis, or Weather Report, to jazz
fusion.
Lambert, Hendricks & Ross was a trio whose heydey was in the 50s and
early 60s. They were the first jazz vocalists who sang in vocalese and
were the number one jazz vocal group of their time. Vocalese, the
genre that the Manhattan Transfer started out with, basically took the melody
lines and solos of standard jazz songs [usually sax or trumpet solos], put words
to them and sang them note for note. Shaker Song and Birdland are examples
of this - they replicated the original instrumental melodies and solos with
vocals. LH&R was a baritone/bass, tenor, and a soprano.
Manhattan Transfer paid homage to the genre with their 1985 album Vocalese,
which even featured Jon Hendricks - the song Another Night in Tunisia from
Vocalese features Bobby McFerrin, Jon Hendricks and Manhattan Transfer and is
unbelievable. The reason I say LH&R are better is that Annie Ross has
an UNBELIEVABLE range - she in her prime was basically Cheryl and
Janis rolled into one. Jon Hendricks is likely the fastest vocalist
to ever hit the stage, and is still kicking at 85 - I was lucky enough to catch
him at Birdland this year and he still has all his vocal chops. I spoke to
him backstage and let him know what an affect he and LH&R have had on me for
the last 20 years. I feel fortunate to have met him, as I doubt he will be
touring too many more years.
I would recommend downloading the CD Everybody's Boppin' as a primer.
I discovered this CD when I was in an a capella ensemble in college and covered
the material of all these groups and I still regularly listen to it 20 years
later. This group and Ella Fitzgerald totally changed my approach to
singing. If you want to start more slowly, download Poppity Pop,
Cloudburst, Twisted or Another Night in Tunisia [found on Manhattan Transfer's
Vocalese as well as Bobby McFerrin's Spontaneous Inventions, released almost
simultaneously].

| > 2. Carry On Doctor > From: steve whyte > > Stop Press! Goodwin got Retroglide! Well I never. > Did you buy it or "obtain" it? I know I offered > moons ago but you declined. Yes, look at me, all 'Home Taping Is Killing Music'. I bought it. OK, only off eBay, but at least that way the chances are that someone at some point did buy it from a shop and benefit the band. > Next you'll be tracking down a copy of Trash. No, that NEVER shows up on eBay. > Did you just say "bobbins"? Yes, and for whoever asked (I lose track when I don't respond for days at a time) that was not an arcane tribute to Frank Sidebottom. > Fans go wild, declaring, among other things that > "This is most fantastic thing I've ever heard!" Hand on heart, I can honestly say that this was never an opinion I expressed about Guaranteed. > My favourite on the album! But it came bottom in > Mickey Payne's poll on the Web Digest. Shows what I > know. Or a more confident individual might suggest it shows what those bozos over at the Web Digest know. (Not that I've visited the Web Digest for years, but a bit of blind bigotry never went amiss round these parts.) > I wasn't going to say a word! I'm happily working > my way through my, (very early!), 30's. I hate to break it to you, but to the genuinely young the difference between early 30s and late 30s is practically irrelevant. | I had a piece of spam e-mail from an account called thenightslasher @ yahoo.co.uk. It struck me that with a name like that he could be my nemesis, or possibly an evil equivalent from some parallel universe. A cross between me and Freddy Krueger. I wonder whether somewhere out there in cyberland there is such a character for all of us. Maybe somewhere, lurking, there is a Steve Blacke (surname spelt slightly differently from the norm in order to appear bohemian). Or a Homer Flintstone. Or a Tom Turdhell. You can make up your own from here, and make me wish I'd never mentioned it. AG ___________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Answers - Got a question? | > 1. Overtime live > From: Lolitaj @ aol.com > > Oh, and Alex > - nice that you have enough time to parse and > criticize my choice of words and phrases in > expressing myself. However, even though I used the > digest as my vehicle for communicating, which I > recognize is a public forum, I clearly said I was > talking to Doug. Therefore, the only person who has > valid reason to object to how I expressed my words > is Doug himself, unless what I said was offensive, > which it was not. That seems an odd assertion to me. Surely the very nature of a public forum, any public forum, is that what is stated in it is fair game for comment? It is not for us as authors to state who can or can't react. > Doug knew exactly what I meant in > what I said, so your comments criticizing such were > solely for your pleasure. It's OK Alex, I enjoyed them too. And Lolita can have no valid reason to object to me saying that because I'm clearly speaking only to you. See? It doesn't make sense. > I wanted to give public voice to the other > folks on here who are frankly tired of having their > postings dissected line by line and have likely > stopped contributing as a result. The past richness > of the types of postings we used to receive can be > partly attributed to this, I assure you. That old chestnut. Is there any evidence that this apocryphal group of would-be posters actually exists? A browse through the archives shows that they never appear for the months at a time when I, as one sporadically accused of scaring them away, unsubscribe. If there is indeed a body of meek non-contributors out there, I guarantee that for every one of them there are two people who never contribute because they are intimidated by not belonging to the cliquey, do-you-remember-when-we...?, self-appointed spirit-of-the-Digest buddy group which I (and my own imaginary group of sympathisers) find equally overbearing and tiresome.
