Take a listen to the new material up on Phil's and Mike's myspace pages and you will hear what I mean.”

Just a thought, but by your reckoning above, surely Mike and Phil going to suffer from Mark’s absence in the same way you think Mark suffers from not having the others’ contributions?

Oh absolutely, I don't disagree with any of the above.
Personally I feel that all of the solo projects have
ably demonstrated to what an extraordinary degree
Level 42 was more than the some of its parts. I just
thought it was quite funny that you said 'no offence
to Mark' and then damned him with some of the faintest
praise possible!

Thanks for the info Steve! I really don't bother with
MySpace that much, so I wasn't sure how to search for
individual pages. Hopefully both Gary and Wally have
some music up as well.

As always, I appreciate the effort.

Wally Badarou and Gary Husband are there too.

Enjoy the music when you get there... <<

I enjoyed it Joost- thanks for posting the link!

On a slightly related, wasn't there another Digester
that posted a link once for his version of 'Almost
There'? I'd be curious to hear other material
(original or covers) if anyone wants to post a link.

I think that as long as Mark, Mike, and Wally are
involved, we'll get good music. Honestly, the last
three studio albums before the breakup in 1994 get
unfairly slagged off because this one wasn't involved
or that one's subtly was missed. Truth be told, those
three albums were exceptionally strong in terms of
both musicianship and composition. I'll even go as far
as to say that Gary Husband is a technically more
proficient drummer than Phil was- not to mention a
more powerful one. Yeah, that's right- I said
"better". Ya wanna fight about it?? (Family Guy fans-
hello??). That's not meant as an insult toward Phil-
far from it in fact. But wasn't his primary
contribution to the band more in the form of his
lyrics than his drumming? Ditto for Boon- more for
lyrics that guitar playing?

It's 2007 folks. Boon and Phil departed almost 20
years ago. TWENTY. And honestly, if I didn't know any
better I would never have guessed that Phil was
involved with FOREVER NOW because his presence really
wasn't felt. I agree that both Mike and Wally's
presence are missed on RETROGLIDE (Mike was there, but
not as much as he should have been), but I still think
it's a hybrid between their pre WORLD MACHINE and post
RUNNING IN THE FAMILY material. In other words, when
they weren't focused on releasing commercial sounding
music- which is what all the die hard
"Oh-it-hasn't-been-the-same-since-True-Colours" types
seem to complain about. And that's not a slag towards
WM or RITF either, but there's no denying that the
band definitely took a much more commercialized
approach with those two releases. It's still great
stuff to listen to.

Eyes forward everyone- that's where the future is. The
past is located directly over your shoulder.
