>>Now that the Digest only actually arrives in my
inbox about one issue in five, occasionally it takes
me a while flick through the archives to catch up. So
it's only two weeks after the fact that I discover The
Mysterious Case of the Digest Pornographer. I have no
idea who this person might be, but my detective's
instinct leads me to begin my enquiries with the man
who takes pride in his name being an anagram of Real
Fine Sex... <<

:-D

Actually, he's more of a Digest 'adulterer'. Though I
have to admit that I don't know the legalities of a
man cheating on his wife with anonymous, multiple male
partners in a darkened theater. Is it still cheating
if it's with members of the same sex? And the irony of
the fact that he'll no doubt spend both the 24th and
the 25th sitting in a Church acting all pious doesn't
escape me...

To your other comment, I was once having a problem
getting Digests sent to my Juno account (which is run
off of a program on my computer), so Eric switched me
over to a web based e-mail address (Yahoo, obviously)
and I haven't missed one since. You're running off of
Yahoo too though, so the only thing I can think of is
that it's a filter settings problem perhaps?
Alternatively, you could set up another web based
account and see if you have better luck.

Some other bits & bobs I've been meaning to comment
on:

>>I was listening to the Retroglide Tour CD 20 minutes
ago, & you know the "secret/bonus" track at the end of
CD1? Well at least we now know what it's called. Oh
well. <<

So it's called 'A Waltz For Dawn' then? And is it a
studio or live track?

- Retroglide:

Great album, not given a fair chance by some fans,
methinks.

- Giants vs. Dolphins:

I suppose if you wanted to get all "PHILosophical" and
write song lyrics to draw a metaphor (as the drummer
Gould was wont to do), you could see the Dolphins as
something that was thought of as a good thing once,
but recent events showed the true ugliness underneath.

BTW, can one of you UK members tell me the difference
between Wembly Stadium and Wembly Arena? Which one
hosted the game, and which one hosted those multiple
Level 42 sellout gigs in 1991? For that matter, which
Wembly was the 'Live at Wembly' video from 1986
recorded at?

>>Although Anthony David's might be considered a well
thought out and romantic treatment, the fact that the
guy or the backing singers hardly ever sang the end of
the words quite ruined it for me. You might not have
noticed this knowing the words. To me, Soul is not
about lazy singing just because you have a nice
sounding voice.

Most musicians know that the public hear what they
think they are hearing. Unless the words are really
changed, (like Mark's "show your tits to me" in Love
Games) they don't notice. Of course, what it actually
demonstrates is that Mike and Mark are far better
singers than they usually get credit for being. <<

The rap/hip-hop thing ruined it for me at the get go.
A terrible interpretation of the song.

>>Rob, thanks for posting that link. What great
memories that brings to
mind. Level 42 opening for Madonna in '87 was the
first time I'd ever
seen them in concert (Dallas, TX at Texas Stadium). I
was one of the
few people who were there to see Level 42 primarily
and not Madonna.
I remember being so frustrated that people were
walking around and
generally ignoring them as they played on stage, as
typically happens
to opening acts. I saw them again, only a couple
months later,
playing in a smaller, outdoor venue (Dallas's West
End) and couldn't
believe I could be 20 feet from the stage seeing my
favorite band.
Good times. :) <<

I had wanted to go with a friend to see the concert in
NYC, but the $100 ticket price was prohibitive for me
back then. I was lucky enough to see them open for
Steve Winwood in 1986 though. Man, I'd love a copy of
that show...

>>However, I can see another setting for Mark's
"trying to better" something argument, with today's
chat-less DJs. They mess about with records on stage,
or in their bedrooms before the gig, and we are
talking records that have been days in the mixing by
real top professionals, (at great expense), and they
think they can better them. Tw ats! <<

See above comments about rap/hip-hop, "dance" music,
etc. No musical talent required at all- just studio
savvy on the part of the producer and the ability to
talk fast.

Steve, I thought it was "tw @ ts"... ;-)

mikethepom <mikethepom @ yahoo.com> inquired:

it usually doesn't make it through? <<

See my previous response to Andrew. My guess is
something to do with your settings, though I don't
know enough about that stuff to suggest a solution.

On a completely different topic, does anyone know if
those scratched CD repair kits really work? As a
freebie through an eBay auction, I ended up with a
copy of the (supposedly) rare 'Children Say' CD single
('Star Child' and 'The Platinum Edition Megamix' are
the other two tracks). It's in exceptionally bad shape
though (track one doesn't play at all), and I was
wondering if it was worth trying to repair or if I
should simply toss it in the trash.
