First off, I enjoyed Mark' Waltz for Dawn on the Status site, though I was initially confused as it didn't seem to start in 3/4. However, on L42 . com I happened to spot Mark's answer to an Alan James
question - What would be your top ten favourite songs to cover if you had to
cover ten songs? Well I'm afraid I have to disagree with Mark. I know Jack Bruce was one of his inspirations, and presumably he has seen him, though possibly, him being so young, not playing in Cream, but his cover blows Cream's version away, especially when you consider he played all the instruments. That said, there is nothing that can be taken away from Cream, they were such groundbreakers, whom I saw a few times, once even for 55p, it is no wonder Mark would want to cover such a great song. I suspect that Mark really knows just how good his cover is, or it would never have seen the light of day. However, I can see another setting for Mark's "trying to better" something argument, with today's chat-less DJs. They mess about with records on stage, or in their bedrooms before the gig, and we are talking records that have been days in the mixing by real top professionals, (at great expense), and they think they can better them. Tw ats! Anyway, all have a good Christmas, in case I don't post again, including Mark and the rest of the band and crew, as I'm sure they read this from time to time, sifting the wheat from the chaff! Hi All,
There was me feeling happy to point you all in the direction of the Status website to listen to "A Waltz For Dawn" yesterday, but now I feel a little bit of a pudding.
I was listening to the Retroglide Tour CD 20 minutes ago, & you know the "secret/bonus" track at the end of CD1? Well at least we now know what it's called. Oh well.
Cheerio,
Mark W. |
