Has everyone gone on Holiday and left me here
Hi Gang I may have missed this on previous digest's but I was looking at my
tape version of Guaranteed and noticed the following on the "inlay card" a
picture of the band: Mark King, Mike Lindup, Gary Husband, and Alan
Holdsworth. also credits listing the above, yet the cover picture is Jakko
not Alan, no mention of Jakko in the inlay card either. anyone know why ?
just curious Regards Colin

Aw, poor Colin, is no one talking to you? Let me be your friend today then.

The way I understand it - and i'm sure i'll be corrected if i'm wrong - is
that Alan played on the Guaranteed album but wasn't prepared to become a
member of the band full time. Hence he had the credits and picture on the
album inlays. There was a huge delay between the Guaraneed album being
written and being released and in that time there was the 15 night run at
Hammersmith, where Alan Holdsworth played guitar.

Jakko was then approached to be a full time replacement for the late Alan
Murphy, and to tour the new album. Jakko therefore got his picture on the
album cover as the new member of the band, especially as I imagine the album
cover artwork was snapped long after the album was recorded.

Jakko didn't actually play on any of the Guaranteed album, so no credits,
but did play on 2 b-sides "At This Great Distance" and "As Years Go By" as
they were recorded after the Guaranteed sessions and after Holdsworth had
left the scene.

Hope this answers your question...
Steve
