Zero 7 Simple Things Remix has the honor of being the first set of tunes I purchased on iTunes, and to this day the Bugz in the Attic remix of Distractions is on my top 25 list - the song is slammin'!  If you are a Zero 7 fan you need to get this version to hear what is done with the tracks.

Take 6/Manhattan Transfer are the Godiva chocolates of a capella music.  Doug if you like those two groups you need to go back and get music from the original gangstas of the genre - Lambert, Hendricks & Ross.  The Transfer basically were the latter day version of that group - except LHR was better.  If you are not familiar with who they are, e-mail me offline.  I will also tell you the story of how I got to sing with Manhattan Transfer back in 1988 - still one of the highlights of my life...

Finally, Carl Mueller has graced NYC with his presence for a week, and we hung out last night.  What a thrill - having him on my home turf!  We were chatting about the fact that next year is THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF ILF 98!  Time for some of us to have a bit of a reunion, no?  Discuss amongst yourselves...

Well, still an unanswered question in my head, I'm afraid. I've not listened
to Retroglide, I have to say, and probably won't until I spot it in a bargain
bin somewhere. Not to say there aren't some tunes on there I wouldn't enjoy,
but I'm just avoiding the disappointment, I guess. So in my own way, I have
moved on.

It's just a shame, really.... I felt the early '42 had a unique sound and a
long - but probably not so prosperous - future ahead of them. I had the
pleasure of seeing them live in a small venue in the early eighties, and it
was just amazing. Score +1 for youthful enthusiasm, but their path could so
easily have been from high-energy youthful funkateers to older, more
thoughtful songwriting but with the same rhythmic sophistication which really
marked their sound for me and made them unique.

It's a shame. Now, if only the Y-Chromo-Boyz would make it big (or do some
gigs in the South West)...

Cheers,

Mike

I just finished reading the Oct 1969 installment of the digest. Seems AG
and Freisen got involved in fisticuffs over who got to use the Tonka dump
truck in the sand box.

Looks like AG won though.

I let him win. Didn't seem right to beat up a one-year-old. And besides,
I knew the sand box was full of buried cat treats. I told him they were
yummy chocolate pirate treasures.

I listened to Ship all the way through again and will admit that the end is good.

Can you find the hidden words?  Take a break and play Seekadoo! Play now!

'allo...

...Ship is by far my fave track on Retroglide - the
only one I liked instantly. In fact sitting here at
work I can't think of any of the other tracks - time
for another listen methinks. I also love 'Resupply'
and 'Sleepwalkers', both of which have also been hit
with the melancholy stick. I think Mark does sad songs
well (?)

Doug, I love Zero 7's Simple Things, especially the
obvious Destiny, Distractions and In The Waiting Line
- I love Sia's just-got-out-of-bed voice..."I lie
awake, I've gone to ground, I'm watching porn in my
hotel dressing gown..." I have the one with bonus CD
of remixes. I also have a gorgeous acoustic version of
Destiny, from some compilation.

I recently discovered a band called Just Jack - I'd
say they're poms (limeys) judging by the accent and
lyics. Anyone heard their album Overtones? Good gear.
Also a huge fan of Turin Brakes and to a lesser extent
I Am Kloot and Elbow - anyone else?

I migrated to Australia from England 20 years ago
today!

Cheers ~ Mike (Sydney City Milkman)

Go Manly!!

Hey Jennifer,

I've been noticing in the sports page some mentions of a big fine,
$100 million(!?) I think...kinda staggering, for McLaren due to some
sort of spying implication. I have been wondering about what it was
that they did, but have not taken the time yet to actually find out.

I was into F1 to a small degree a few years ago when I had actual TV
reception and had cable and could look at ESPN's coverage of F1 such
as it was. I haven't really paid too much attention in the last few
years and with Michael Schumacher gone I don't have a clue as to who
anybody really is.

So, Jennifer, what's the whole story regarding this spying thing, I
have to assume that whatever they did was more Belichekian than the
Patriot's espionage was. I almost assume they had moles in other
people's factories to get info on the new cars the other teams were
wanting to build. Am I close?

It ain't stupid if you don't get caught, but it is really O.J.
Simpsonian to get caught doing bad things.

I think I will stop now....don't need people throwing bobbins at me.
