| Dean Osborn asked: "Can anyone recommend anything along those lines ... slow type relaxing stuff ..." I'm into this gear and have bought CDs I haven't even listened to yet. There are so many compilations but you often have to wade through loads of electronic bippity-bip instrumentals to find the standouts. Having said that, that's how I discovered Zero 7 - their album Simple Things is excellent - and also Royksopp (fave track Sparks), Air (fave All I Need) and Rae & Christian (fave Spellbound). There's a series of compilations called Angel Beach which I found very good - ten bucks for 3CDs at Dirt Cheap CDs - not sure what the equivalent is in the UK, ASDA? Acoustic Chill is also one of my fave CDs and contains quite a few gems. Some names that stand out in my mind are St Germain, Nitin Sawhney, Lamb and Massive Attack. As a slight departure, I really enjoy Elbow, Athlete, Bent, Faithless and even more so I Am Kloot and Turin Brakes. I stumbled across Nizlopi's album Half These Songs Are About You - with the brilliant JCB on it - and first found Emiliana Torrini, Damien Rice and Ray LaMontagne on compilations. And there's a bro/sis duo from Sydney's northern beaches called Angus & Julia Stone - beautiful acoustic stuff, which I love. Cheers ~ Mike (Sydney City Milkman) ____________________________________________________________________________________Ready for the edge of your seat? Check out tonight's top picks on Yahoo! Thirteen years later I have to negotiate stereo airtime with a wife and several daughters, not all of whom are Level 42 fans. They all do like Donald Fagen without reservation, and we also all like Salsa (sparingly) and Classical -- the girls have discovered they really like Ravel and Debussy. << A personal discman or MP3 player (for them or yourself) would solve the problem. :-) Also reminding your daughters that it's *your* stereo to listen to... How many of you still have that CD? << I have both Digest fans CDs and still listen to them even though (I believe) all the material was released with the 2000 reissues. mikethepom <mikethepom @ yahoo.com> wrote: >>Finally picked up the Rockpalast DVD - will give it a spin this weekend. << What's this now? HTML Link, please... dean.osborn <dean.osborn @ bt.com> wrote: >>Surely Level 42 must now hold the record for compilation releases. << You may be right Deano. The only other group I can think of with this many compilation CDs is Tangerine Dream. The difference here is that TD was behind most of the rehashing of their own material, whilst in Level 42's case it seems to be different companies licensing the material. Mark Woodhouse <mark.woodhouse1 @ googlemail.com> wrote: >>With a running time of 1:20 & containing 15 tracks I think that this may be the Reading Live CD but with Running In The Family & Lessons In Love tagged onto the end of the track listing. And interestingly enough, that might mean that Disc 2 of the "Running In The Family" live double CD I bought at Asda for £4 a few months ago might also be a copy of the Reading Live CD!! I'm slightly confused. << I believe Carl footnotes this stuff on his site (when it's just the same CD with a new title). Someone help me out here- Carl?? David Moore <abuelo_70 @ hotmail.com> asked: >> One last question: what is it about the song, The Ape that everyone hates it so much? It's not my favorite L42 song but what am I not seeing/hearing? << It's a very atypical Level 42 track, but I've never understood the hate towards it. Kind of an odd way to end the first side of the album (ahhh, when albums had sides...) but it's enjoyable in it's own right. Adam Hankinson <adam @ hankinson.com> wrote: >>Don't forget Gavin Harrison, he was (is) amazing. << I've seen him live with Porcupine Tree four times now. One of best drummers out there currently, period. >>Retroglide: No comment << There's so much good to write about this album that I can understand you wanting to take your time to write down your thoughts thoroughly and comprehensively. And no, I'm not being facetious. It's a brilliant release. F'in deal with it. :-) >>USA tour: ha ha ha, never gonna happen. Although Mikey looks like he's up to something sneaky! << Don't count it out just yet... steve whyte <sjwhyte @ hotmail.com> wrote: >>An ex-digester sent this link to me and thought it might be of interest to people here.
