| Lolita, you are thinking of "AS YEARS GO BY", which can be found at this link..http://www.forevernow.com/music/digest/aygb.shtml The Steely Dan & Incognito connection is only that quite a few folks on this digest enjoy the music of both bands. Win | ||

| Craig wrote .. Talking of connections (this is starting to feel like Comedy Dave's Tenuous Link!), please can someone tell me why Incognito and Steely Dan get mentioned so much on the digest? What's the connection? Craig, I think the answer may be Jazz, although I only know what I like rather than why. I think it's all to do with a style of (intelligent) music played by people who fit together so well they become more than the sum of the parts. That sounds like b******* now that I read it, but I think there's some truth in there. Equally, on the forum we have all been influenced by major contributors, Lolita and AG to name but two – incidentally, two of the biggest fans of the groups mentioned (and rightly so in my view). Never heard of Steely Dan ? I have no recollection of any decent music before I heard 'Do It Again' .. Incognito - you will not hear a funkier collection of musicians and i defy you not to want to become a nicer person after you have been Bluey'd ... | Hi, To answer Lolita's question, I have a copy of "As Years Go By" and I cherish it every day as it came along at such the right time. All the tracks are gems and everyone here should have a copy. Am still grateful for the effort that went into it and and the Past & Presence CD too. Thanks folks! Jules | ||

| Lolita, I think the album of which you speak is As Years Go By. It was a fan-produced compilation of b-sides and hard-to-find tracks. For those of you who weren't around at the time, here is the information sheet we used to send out about them... Long long ago, in a galaxy far, far away. . . The members of the Level 42 Digest decided that the world would be a bigger hoppy frood if everyone, yes, everyone had a copy of all the amazing Level 42 material that disappeared almost as soon as it was released. Almost immediately the quest was on. After many months of thinking, and collecting b-sides from vinyl, and other sources, the first track list was complete. Our valiant hero [spacebar] spent many hundreds of years battling the dark empire of surface noise and spurious transients to make the tracks as clean as was necessary to accomplish the goal. Finally the disc was completed, and many people flocked to get "As Years Go By". Well, it's happening again. From the wonderful hands of [spacebar] (sometimes known to go under the pseudonym of JohnV) the next Level 42 Digest Album is here- "Past and Presence, Vol. 1". So, why are you writing me? Well, my name is Matthew, and I'm here to distribute these to the Levelheads of the world. AYGB and P&P1 are pirate discs, not bootlegs; they consist of music which has been released before. These discs are products of the Level 42 Digest, and are for distribution only to the members of the Level 42 Digest. **important** One final note- these discs are sold at actual cost of production. The only people who will profit from their production are the United States Mail Service, and Verbatim, my blank disc manufacturer. If anyone attempts to sell these discs for more than the actual cost, or, worse yet, makes any attempt to move them into commercial distribution, we'll track you down and hunt you like an animal. That's not a threat, it's a promise. By ordering a copy of either disc, you agree to NEVER sell it for more than actual cost, or make any effort or attempt to move it into private commercial distribution. If this is violated, there will be no more discs produced. Period. That said, let's move on to the music! Here's the track list for "As Years Go By": 1. Instrumental Love 8:09 2. Forty Two 6:39 3. Beezer One 7:11 4. Foundation and Empire Parts 1 & 2 8:21 5. The Return of the Handsome Rugged Man 5:57 6. Freedom 6:23 7. Can't Walk You Home 6:55 8. Three Words 4:44 9. All She Wants 4:13 10. At This Great Distance 4:43 11. As Years Go By 4:36 12. Time Will Heal 4:02 And now, the long-awaited track list for "Past and Presence, volume I" (aka "The Level 42 Digest Reunion Show"): 1. | 'allo Digestives... ...I haven't read the Digest for months - what's been occurring? I saw a reference to Penny Lane in the last one. Does anyone remember (former Little) Jimmy Osmond singing it on an episode of Fame a thousand years ago? It's stayed with me as one of the best vocal performances I've heard. Thanks for the ASDA tip, whoever that was. We don't have anything like that here in Oz so I've asked my siblings to keep an eye out for bargain bin L42 gear. Finally picked up the Rockpalast DVD - will give it a spin this weekend. Cheers ~ Mike (Sydney City Milkman) P.S. A friend of mine has a condition where he can't read the brand names of kitchen appliances. He suffers from Dishlexia. ____________________________________________________________________________________Ready for the edge of your seat? Check out tonight's top picks on Yahoo!
