Hi Chris!

I don't know if it's me. . .

Hiya folks,

First of all I would like to give a shout out to all the nifty people
who have replied to emails or just written out of the blue to me of late.

Carl of Carl & Laurel (and forevernow.com) sent me a nice email
saying hi (I love that by the way, it makes the reading of all the
past digests that much more worthwhile), Sharmin Hall, YCB's manager,
letting me know that there's music to download and a gig upcoming in
the UK, if only I had the cash on hand to fly halfway around the
world to see the gig (sigh), but the sentiment is very much
appreciated, Zak Nilsson, whom I sent an email and he replied back to
the email as well as the posting about YCB (thanks for that Sharmin)
and then recently I've also conversed with Tom the Fool (heh) and
Mike the Pom (the ball is in his court at the mo). Thanks one and all
for your emails!

Now on to the other bit....

I actually decided on waiting to send this email over night and I am
still perturbed. Granted I ought not to get all 'het' up about
something that happened 5 years ago....but the whole stupid 2 bits vs
2 cents rant that Fred the 2 bit bassist went on not once but
twice(!!!) and separated by months of digests is just ridiculous. The
whole sermonizing and superior holier than thou I will teach how to
speak better english AND how to use apostrophes properly just set me
off. I know that AG will occasionally upbraid someone on their
improper use of the language but it is almost always in the broader
context of nailing them in a humorous way for something they've written.

I remember when Fred was a newbie, and went on his 2 bit vs 2 cents
rant and actually told Lolita that her use of the language was
improper, my jaw hit the floor. This IS an informal gathering of
people and while I will admit to some hackles rising when I read
something like Persuit instead of Pursuit, I have no inclination to
get online and start screaming about it. However, lecturing people
that 2 cents is a nonexistent term and in reality people should be
using the correct usage of 2 bits because of some damn broken coin
back in the day (whatever century that day was) is so utterly
preposterous and beyond the pale that I can't even begin to
adequately express my outrage at the sheer arrogance.

There's more to say about this but there's really no point to harping
too much on events of 5 years past. Fred, if you're still out there
and reading, I hope you've gotten over yourself and moved on. There's
nothing more annoying than someone who decides to lecture others in
an informal setting about things that have nothing to do with the
subject....ummm, maybe I ought to shut up now.....

Hmmm, digest related item.....I am really like the Live at the Jazz
Cafe CD, even if I am having trouble with the first track. Since it
is new I am wondering a little bit if it is a built in problem or
luck of the draw. It isn't something I have to have rectified,
although I am pondering sending Mark an email (or whomever does the
production) alerting them to a potential problem. Carl? Morgan? got
any suggestions related to this?

Ok, I am relaxed now.....

Doug

3.  Richard West is my hero....and Trash cut in two?

think this may be my last email to the digest today (heh):

I'm reading the Dec 18th digest in which our good Mr West is going
OFF on Fred the Bassist for his pedantic remarks concerning some of
our Dutch firneds having some fun with the election disaster 2000.

Mr West, if you're still reading, you are my new hero...your remarks
are right on! I wish I could type as well when I am all heated up
from someone's ignorant remarks. In this case our self appointed
brainiac Ferd has some of his 'facts' completely skewed or in some
cases completely made up. Why doesn't that surprise me?

Anyways, it was good to read Mr West's remarks, which so far as I've
read in my slog through the back issues of the digest is the BEST
reply to Mr Ferd that I've seen.

And now I've read that someone actually sent Mr King a Trash CD cut
in two? All because people are besides themselves over some off the
cuff remark he made about seeing people at the Bar? AND people are
considering selling their entire collections because of it? Uh yeah,
I am speaking as if this is all current, but have people taken
complete leave of their senses? Tearing down websites, selling off
all related music, getting rid of artifacts all because of this? Good
God, I hope some of these people came to their senses! But, then when
it comes to the people we've put on a pedestal it can be a long hard
fall when we discover how much like us our hero is.

Um.....have I said how much I like Da Lata album Serious?

Toodles,

Doug

I can't let it go. The only thing that gives me a
reason to get up each morning is the thought that I
might be deemed The Funniest Person by the entire
membership of a diminishing forum of apathetic
admirers of a largely insignificant 80s band. First
being voted Third Most Entertaining on the Wang Chung
Digest, now this. I can't take much more ignominy.
