Lots of people commenting recently on new music
discovered via this forum, so let me throw Corduroy
into the mix. Like the James Taylor Quartet but with a
60s TV theme sensibility. Splendidly jaunty stuff.

Are there any Shakatak fans here? Don’t worry, you
don’t have to admit it in public. It’s just that I
discovered recently that Jill Saward made a solo album
featuring Jason Rebello and I’m wondering what it’s
like. Basically, I don’t want to hunt it down if it’s
just like Shakatak only with a pianist who knows how
to use both hands.

OK, i must afdmit i found AG's attempt at humour with the false 'BETSY' post
rather lame. Especially for someone the digest seems to think is the
funniest
guy this side of..well, anyone. But the "do you like fiche" and "Dewey
have a chance"
replies were well worth it..made me laugh out loud, which tells you my
level of
humour. ;-)

Hey you peoples...

I received the Jazz Cafe CD in the mail this morning....yippeeeeee.

Been trying to find a number on the CD to tell Win or whomever cares
about those things, but can't find one.

Haven't heard it yet, but then I am at work and I've had it in my
possession for less than an hour. I will try to hear it during one of
my breaks and at lunch, tho.

So, I am happy to say that lately I've been getting quite a bit of
good music to listen to:

Diana Krall - Only Trust Your Heart, I love her smoky, sultry voice.....

The Rippingtons - Wild Card, I need to listen to this some more, I
think maybe their earlier stuff is better

Beau Soleil - Encore, Encore!!! I know some of you detest Cajun &
Zydeco, but I've always felt these guys were terrific.

De Lata - Serious, 'Serious', 'Firefly' & 'Distracted Minds' are
worth the price of admission all on their own....'Distracted Minds'
has some kind of bass sound that is so utterly cool it makes me wish
I had a subwoofer either in my car or home stereo.

Keiko Matsui - The Best of, nice stuff, I like her music for the most part.

The Commodores - The Ultimate Collection, what can I say? Terrific Music

and then, I am carrying around in the car - The Ambient Collective >
Trance - Very cool stuff - And - Gamalon - Held to the Light - I've
always like Gamalon and now that I back to consistently listening to
music these are guys I want to listen to.....and lastly I have in the
car at the moment Candy Dulfer - What does it take A groovin' set of
music, I gotta tell ya....

Now, off the listen to my latest CD....

"Good Idea to do this Mike."
Thanks Dennis, but not half as good as your story -
nice one!

I have a friend from my IoW days who sent me an email
recently. She was at Ray King's place getting some
apples or something and he told her she might be
related to the Kings. Seems he'd been tracing the
family history and made the link. Maybe the IoW is
like Tasmania, where I've heard it said everyone is
related!

Chris, this is what I originally wrote:
"Here's an idea. Everyone - that means everyone,
especially traditional non-posters - write their
personal version of this:

I'm Mike Bartlett. I'm 43 and live in Sydney,
Australia. I got into Level 42 when I lived in
Gurnard, IoW in 1980-82. I have an 18 year old son
who's also a big fan. That's all - name, age,
location, how you got into the band and an extra
comment if you have one. It's easy, a bit like
Alcoholics Anonymous or Weight Watchers. Come on, just
write it and hit Send ..."

I'm sitting here watching Level 42 at Rockpalast
October 1983. I still get goosebumps watching Mark go
'into one' on the bass ... he is without doubt the
dog's bollocks of bass playing.

I'm hoping to make a trip to the UK around May or June
to visit family and friends (I haven't been back since
1992). I'll be based in Brighton and travelling to
London, Alton, IoW and maybe Haverfordwest in Wales to
see my brother. It'd be great to hook up with some UK
Digestives. And where would be the best place to look
at used Jaydees? The Bass Centre? Macari's? Anyone?

Cheers ~ Mike (Sydney City Milkman)
