Hi All

Well i haven't posted on here for years although i have been lurking in the background and keeping up with everything.
I have been working hard building up my collectors music business selling Records and CDs and now established myself well on the collecters scene after nearly seven years in business.

I stopped posting as I admit I got a little irritated by AGs put downs of music taste and we did have a little discussion on the matter!!
Glad to see from his latest postings he hasn't changed the habit of a lifetime, Ha Ha.
I've learned to live with it though, it's like watching my football team Bury and hearing one or two of our OWN fans spending the whole game shouting at our own players with abuse and comments on how they should go back to their previous club!!
Great idea that and they wonder why we are struggling near the bottom of the league and half the players seem to have given up!.

It's great to hear there is a new album on the way and a tour, though why they are not coming down to Plymouth I don't know because it has been well attended and near capacity on the last visits there.

A few recent points raised that are worth commenting on are Level 42 being labelled a minor 80's act. I believe someone posted their Worldwide sales recently on here and actually they were not minor but one of those medium sized acts on sales alone.
It doesn't really matter anyway but it's fair to give them their due and they did make more than a minor impact on the music world.

I've always been into far more music than just Level 42 but they are overall one of my favourites as I seem to like nearly everything they ever did and I just cannot say that about many bands.

The diversity of music mentioned on here is great because it shows people have such wide tastes.
The ironic thing for me is when running down other peoples tastes you only do yourself down really.
I now try and laugh when I read AGs comments on stuff he doesn't like or rate. Most of the artists he prefers are specialist and select with actually quite a small market on the sales front (not that it matters by the way)
Very cool and very hip, serious musicians who play serious music and I have no doubt that I would like some of it too except I haven't heard of half of them!!.
If that is what excites him then that is great and it's great he shares it on here and new people discover stuff they had never heard of before.
My ask with AG was always to just lay off others who like a different style of music, you don't have to put them down and be-little them just because they differ on what floats their boat.
Humour is great but if your humour is always based around personal put downs then is it really funny anymore?
Everyone is probably now say YEAH!

On the mention of Kajagoogoo, I must mention that they produced an excellent album called Islands which has recently been issued on CD. OK Big Apple and Lions Mouth are not exactly great adverts for the album but if you can get past that and can sneek a copy without anyone seeing you buy it and spoiling your street cred then you'll find some great tracks on that album.
Nick Beggs went on to play with a band called Iona and if you like a mixture of Celtic & Rock then there is no better band in this World. Stunning musicians and Joanne Hogg the lead singer has the most amazing voice.

Gulp I also like Coldplays music and thought the last album had some cracking tracks on it. Cue onslaught!!!

A "minor" band i like are called Delirious and Live they are absolutely awesome. I took my 14 year old son to a gig in Bristol before christmas and it blew him away.

Anyway great to be back posting again though I don't get a lot of spare time so it will probably be another couple of years before I post again.

Have fun and enjoy the music

2.  Going it alone

I’m heartily in support of Andrew Goodwins call for us to go it alone at gigs.

The last time I saw Level 42 I spent the whole gig with my heart in my mouth waiting for the next opportunity for my wife to slag off;

a) some over enthusiastic cheering/whistling

b) audience members making fools of themselves/dancing

c) girls in the audience who were just trying to get the attention of the band (!)

d) that song they played last time (!!)

It should have been a great night out but it turned into a totally joyless experience, which is why I’m taking my son with me this time.

And it’s also why I’m going by myself to see Jethro Tull next Friday. I did it two years ago & had a great time.

Cheerio

Mark

Does anyone from this Digest know where I can get the piano score for Level 42's "Leaving Me Now"? Perhaps someone's already transcribed Mike Lindup's mesmerizing solo from his live performances.... [anyone? blink, blink] :)

Hey kids,

Well, I finally emailed myself all the missing digests from 92 and
the first half of '93. It took me awhile as I wasn't feeling too
enthusiastic about the job. But now it is finito. Tomorrow I'll begin
reading again....first up is 9/11/2001.

I received Da Lata's Songs from the Tin and Mike Conversation with
Silence as well as a couple of other things in the mail yesterday. On
my way home from work I listened to Songs from the Tin and I like it.
I think I may like Serious a little more, but I also think I need to
listen to it more. I did like it quite a bit though.

As for Conversation with Silence....what a change of pace. I enjoyed
it, but I don't think it is quite the driving CD, more like something
I want to listen to while....romancing the wife! But, it is enjoyable
and you can tell that he's put a lot of work into this. I'm looking
forward to hearing this on the home stereo. It is definitely a change
of pace from listening to one of Mark's albums.

I still need to see Live at the Rockpalast as well as listen to Gary
Husband's Gary and Friend's CD. Can't wait.

Plus I need to listen to Another Meaningless Crisis, again. Good
stuff I tell ya.

Doug

Ok Friesen,

I have decided I want to hear some of your music.....

How do I convince you to let me do that?

Night all....

Doug
