>Mike is criminally underused on this project and that is a shame. Does
>anyone else agree/disagree with any of this ?

Absolutely Dean, I couldn't agree more.

There are moments on Retroglide where you can hear Nathan or Lyndon doing
backing duties, or even Mark layering his own vocals seemingly a dozen
times, (I think All Around, All I Need and Sleep Talking are the main
culprits), and i can't for the life of me understand why it isn't Mike being
used.

Similarly, Mark appears to have to have performed some of the keyboard
duties himself. He invited Mike into the studio and hasn't used him. Mark
and Mike sang and played so well together over the years, but none of it is
evident here i'm afraid.

I would like to say that I do actually like the new album. There are some
outstanding moments on it and Mark deserves a lot of the credit being heaped
upon him. However, like you, i listen to Retroglide and I hear a very well
polished MK solo album, not a Level 42 album.

That's not a criticism, merely an observation.

Hi all,

In the midst of all the Retroglide joy, I just want to say that all the download problems on www.level42dk.dk have been resolved.

Cheers,
Lars

G'day Digestives ...

... while in the You Kay recently I picked up a copy
of 'It'll Be All Right On The Night' on video for a
quid, at one of those charity shops. It's the one that
was made to raise money for the Zeebrugge Disaster
Fund and features a bunch of good 80s comics and
musicians like Jim Davidson, Mike Reid, Hale & Pace
and Frankie Howerd, plus a few rubbish ones. For me,
the strangest inclusion is Alvin Stardust(!) Anyway,
the reason for buying it wasn't the glittering array
of shiny-suited talent, but the bonus hit video, 'Let
It Be' by Ferry Aid, of which I have the single
somewhere.
I'll put it on and try and name the talent ... it
opens with Sir Paul McCartney of Peasmarsh / Boy
George / one-third of Bananarama / Paul King (no
relation) who did Love & Pride / and here he is in all
his 28 year old glory, our very own Sir Mark King of
The Island with (I think) Ruby Turner / a girl with a
bloke's voice whose name I don't recall / that bloke
out of Erasure - not the one who was in Yazoo, the
other one / Pepsi & Shirlie out of Wham! / a quick
grab of MK on the bass / Mel & Kim / a familiar
looking bloke doing a guitar solo in an overcoat /
Mark Knopfler / Kim Wilde & possibly Nick Kamen /
Edwin Starr / Ben Volpiere-Pierrot out of Curiosity
Killed The Cat, with another guy having a smoke / look
out, here comes Kate Bush, all breathy and wistful /
then there's the obligatory group shot a la Band Aid.
Blimey, there's hundreds of 'em .. is that Rick
Astley? Howard Jones? Errol Brown? The other
Bananaramas? I can't recognise them all. And what's
Simon Bates doing there? Maybe he threatened to ban
the single from Radio One if he didn't get an invite.
Mark's bit almost makes up for the band's absence at
Live Aid two years before. Almost.

My fingers have gone numb so I'll stop typing now.

I'm off to the shops today, readers, to see if I can
find a copy of Retroglide at Borders, HMV or JB HiFi.
Fingers crossed.

Cheers ~ Mike (Sydney City Milkman)
