I was at the Café de Paris – and I have to say it was flipping great.  Sure the setlist is a little on the “safe” side – they still have to cater for the non die-hards.

But don’t under-estimate the “power of Mike”.  You haven’t heard the band sounding this much like the original Level 42 line-up since 1994.  The set list worked really well together, the Retroglide tracks sound really great live, and having Mike and a couple of really old keyboards on stage felt like welcoming home a really old friend.

Hi All

Interesting to read others views on the album, I posted mine a week or so ago and further repeated listens haven't changed anything much.

I'm amazed at some of the very negative comments though like 'it's not the same as the old stuff' or 'it's not as good as World Machine' etc.
This is a NEW album, it is not meant to be like the previous albums, that is the whole idea surely!

I don't think Mark is claiming it's better than anything they have done before, it is just a new set of songs and tunes to enjoy.
If you don't enjoy then I don't think it's a problem or makes the album rubbish, it's just the way it goes.

Someone said there is no "Groove" on the album and I am staggered by that comment. We all have our views but have you really listened to it in Stereo on a half decent system? There really are some tracks with a great Groove on the album.

It will not get Radio play or hit the charts and even if they had re-hashed previous albums and everyone on here had been raving about the album, it still would not have received any Radio Play or Chart success!

I'd have loved to have heard more of Mike on the album too but he's not a permanent part of the group anymore unfortunately so I would reckon that had something to do with it.
I take the points from some re. the lyrics as well but they are not too bad.

I'd still say if you want just a re-hash of previous LPs then it will disappoint but if you want to hear the Level 42 groove mixed with Pop/Rock music by a band that has moved on and a different set of musicians then you can enjoy this LP a lot.

I also reckon they will be great Live and can't wait for the concerts.
I'm off to the Bristol one and taking my 7 year old son to his first concert so that will be interesting. My 14 year old son has been to a Delirious gig before and was blown away so hoping the same will happen again.
We are in the Rear Stalls just in case it's a bit loud for the youngest and hoping some other kids will be there too.

take care

I have just returned from the concert at The Lowry. Lucky me had a front row
seat and what a great time I had. Boy, are those of you who have got tickets
for the Retroglide tour in for a good time. It was great to see Mike Lindup
back on the team, and for me it made a great difference. His keyboards
(Prophet 5) and vocal contributions brought back the classic 'Level 42
Sound'. This was the best Level 42/Mark King concert I've been to. The
Retroglide tracks slotted in well among the usual hits. Audience and band
really enjoyed themselves.
