AG wrote "...so let me throw Corduroy into the mix..."

I bought the CD 'Corduroy in Mini!' a while back,
played it once and thought it was pants. You've
inspired me to dig it out and give it another go, AG.
I'll report back in due course.

At the moment I'm enjoying, among other things,
Freakpower and The Weekend Sessions compilation. And
I'm sure this happens in other places, as it does in
Oz - trendy restaurants putting together CDs of music
they play inhouse. I just picked up a couple of
compilations by an excellent foodery called Longrain
here in Sydney. They're bloody good and include Bario
Jazz Gang, Groovescooter, EON, Minus 8, Koop, Llorca,
Tarantulas, The Bird, Alex Cortiz, Deepchild, Smith &
Mighty, dmdp, Gak Sato, Paine, Zimpala, Butti 49, SHQ,
Crucial-D, Mo' Horizons, Rephrase, TAG, Coda, Flunk,
Zenzile, EMO and D's on the 2.

That's one of my favourite ways of discovering new
sounds: I see a CD and if I recognise some of the
names - for example, I already loved what I'd heard of
Zimpala, Deepchild, Koop and Flunk (their cover of
Blue Monday is the business) - I figure if the other
artists are in such great company, they must be at
least halfway decent! And usually they are. Overall
I've had a lot of success, but of course there are
often one or two dodgy tracks.

I recently discovered the voice of Emiliana Torrini
and I think I'm in love with her. The weird thing is
that she bears traces of my least favourite singer,
Bjork, whose very name sounds like someone losing
their breakfast.

Good on Doug for mentioning The Commodores - great
band - Brick House is one of THE funkiest songs, up
there with Tom Browne's Funkin' For Jamaica, Wild
Cherry's Play That Funky Music and T-Connection's Do
What You Wanna Do.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the
instructional bass playing DVD - with Mark's head on
the front but not featuring him - without paying AU$60
or so? I thought it might be available through
level42.com but it appears not.

That's it. There is no more.

Thanks for having me at your place ~ Mike (Sydney
City Milkman)

Stephen, as far as Mike following the band around for 20 gigs....I just
posted
what Mark King said in an interview, nothing more. Nothing much to get
excited
about, really. I think the term 'guest' was probably used so folks dont
go getting
the idea he is now part of 'the band' again. I think he will be on the
stage for
all the tunes, not duplicating last years one off event, where he popped out
for one song, and suprised the band by remaining for the encore.

Ag, I wasnt trying to be critical of you, just found it amusing is all.
I do think
some of your stuff is funny, but was suprised how 'unfunny' that bit was,
then really suprised how amused i was by the silly response it garnered.
I enjoy most of the banter here, just never been a big fan of the
format, i guess.
Trying to post witty remarks under everyones daily comments never did it
for me, personally.

Having said that, dont think i have some high brow sense of humour. I'm
a guy
who thinks the funniest show on tv ever was Mystery Science Theatre 3000, a
show that features a guy and two robots making fun of cheesy movies.

Wow,

As I have been reading digests..and slogging through the stupid
Robbie Williams argument saga - Frankly Loz, for shame for continuing
to bait the people arguing with you - I keep coming across the newest
items to be auctioned off at the Fest. I am reading the Oct 29, 2000
digest and have just read the question as to whether anyone would
want to bid on Jakko's services.

I have been astounded by all the great stuff that's been announced
for the auction already and while everything else is really cool this
seems like it would have been an utterly stupendous opportunity to
any of the band members of the digest. So, did it happen? I gotta say
that while I wouldn't have been able to get back there...my wife was
8 months + pregant during that time, at least my jealousy for this is
tempered by the time that's removed since the event.

So, AG and Loz, how come neither of you two never made it to one of
these things? If there were ever to be something close to this in my
neck of the woods I'd be there in a heartbeat. Sigh.

I am having trouble with my Jazz Cafe CD on the first song, amusingly
enough one of the digesters at the time mentioned that he'd been
having drop outs in exactly the same spots I am....plus I have a
small section of distortion early on in the first track of the CD. I
am not concerned enough to do anything like send it back, has anyone
else experienced this since?

Have a terrific weekend, y'all.....

Doug

Lolita,

A new Incognito release entitled Eleven?
Know anything?
Narada.com radio has been playing some Bluey tracks I have never heard before.

Gareth,

Frank McComb has been a favorite for a few years. Golden voice and 70's vibe.
Much recommended to everyone.

Folks,

So, I've reached the Britfest 2000 part of the digest. Good job to
all who went and made the auction for The Children Say charity such a
terrific success!

I am wondering if Morgan or whomever were able to put together the
Level 42 Tribute CD or not? If it has been produced, is it still
possible to obtain one of these babies? I think I remember in my haze
of reading that Morgan was thinking of putting out about 500 copies of this.

I do have the Cover 42 tape some place, I remember how good it was
and how much I really enjoyed listening to other people's versions of
our boys songs.

Also, Ronald Kuipers is talking about producing a Remix CD, which I
think would be terrific and would love to know if that ever came to
fruition. If so, anyone wanna clue me in as to how to obtain a one of
these gems?

Also, Phil Gould's reaction to the Remasters doesn't surprise me in
the least. As a fan from afar, I've always gotten the impression from
other postings that there's not much friendly feeling between the
Gould's and Mark. Now, mind you, things may have changed since 2000,
but in the meantime I just had to say wow to that message and shake my head.

So what WERE the names for the beers at Britfest 2000? hee hee hee

It's the weekend!!! Bye everyone....

Doug
