I'm Laura from California.  I bought WM on tape in 86 and became a digest lurker in 97.
I have a husband and AG says I named him Allwyn.
My kids are now 13 and 9 and they could care less about the band.

First heard Level 42 in 1981/2 - Starchild. Fantastic

Never saw the original band. Always in the wrong place with the Royal Marines.

Still play them now. Just as good - although as a non musician it probably
took me much longer to realise just how good these guys are.

Other stuff - the magnificent Steely Dan, Incognito, Faithless, Mountain
Bikes, Rugby and Ardbeg.

Hi
I’m David Richmond
London
GSOH, non smoker, large..........
Oh no, this is the wrong website.

41 years old now, bloody hell, it’s only when I type it in front of me that I realise how old I am.

First heard Level 42 on, I think, Robbie Vincent Saturday show Radio London (who remembers that cool show?), playing Love Meeting Love, way back in 1980. Then later on, Wings of Love, on Capital Radio late at night (Greg Edwards was the DJ).
From that moment on I was a big fan and have some great memories of gigs and friends.
I would also like to challenge any bass players out there to prove that I am without doubt the worst bass player to have attempted playing the bass. I am naff.

in 1993 set up the Level 42 Digest as a forum to chat about the band. The
rest is history, and overall its been a pretty interesting 12.5 years. I'm
not sure if there's anyone still here from those early early days
<<

Hey Eric, what up?

At one point you told me I was number 11 on the original list of
subscribers.

That makes me either loyal or pathetic, depending on point of view.

My name is David LaBossiere.  I'm 35 years old.  I live in Rancho Cucamonga, California and work in Riverside, California.  I first heard the band, like most, in the mid-80's.  It was, like most, SAY which I first heard.  I went forward in time and picked up LIL album, then WM, then began my journey back into time towards the magnificent back catalogue.  I need to add that many of the digesters have made some seriuosly great recommendations on other music... I really appreciate that enlightenment.  Krall, Incognito, DF's Nightfly, among others...great stuff!!!  My nephews, 17 and 18 years old, really like FN album; they are just about my only converts.

Eric, I for one am still here from the old days.

I saw them on a BBC2 (I think) concert series back in ’83 (again, I think) when they were touring the Standing in the Light. Shortly after they released Living it Up to give y’all a time frame.

I still listen to them a lot, although the only studio album is Forever Now as all the rest are on vinyl and I haven’t got a turntable anymore. But I’ve all the live stuff which was best anyway IMHO.

Leaving Me Now, World Machine and Play Me will always distract me from whatever I’m doing so I guess they’re the favs at the mo.

Thanks

Andrew

Hi All

Just had a week in Menorca and I burned a copy of Early Tapes to take with me. I hated my hire car (door pillar meant lousy visibility at roundabouts) but the CD player was fine, and it was great to play those brilliant old tracks that started it all. While there I watched the darts on TV. So where was he? Didn't even get seeded. Thinking about L42's Dutch connections, the new Dutch 21 year old (who may well win it) gave up soccer to play darts, so there is scope for people to make career changes.

I can't remember the last time I did this.....so here goes:

I am 47 and live in the S.F. Bay Area, in south San Jose. I've lived in the
South Bay area since 1984. I now can't remember how exactly I got into
Level 42, but I think I began hearing their music on one of the San
Francisco Jazz or Smooth Jazz type radio stations and really liking what I
heard.

I've been a member of the the digest since the mid 90s and joined this
group at about the same time as I joined the Debbie Gibson mailing list,
too. There, I've said it.....Ms Gibson's list died a long slow drawn out
death before it just up and disappeared, this group, even though I stopped
reading it I still remained subscribed and even came back after the list
went on hiatus and rejoined and still didn't read it until I decided to
either delete all the mail or start reading it again....I am happy that
I've begun reading again.

At this point I am in late August 2000 and have a little over 1100 messages
left to read....but the gap IS shrinking.

Recent purchases: Tin Man, Boon Gould via Amazon yesterday....I am looking
forward to hearing this one, after all the reviews and after all he is one
of the original members of the group. I don't actually care about that as I
came to them late, but I figure what the heck if its good music its good music.

I also am somewhat thrilled to say that I bought via the internet a double
album by Arabesque on CD(!) and also an album of the The Nolans, also on
CD. I am intrigued if I will enjoy them now as much as I did then....ah
well, if not I can probably unload them.

Have not bought any Lighthouse Family yet, but it IS on my To Possibly
Purchase list, but first I gotta buy Mike Lindup's 'Changes' CD, assuming I
can find it at a decent price. Anybody out there got any leads for me?

Have a great weekend all.....

Doug

Gang,

I am wondering if it is still possible to get liner notes, CD cover sheets
(whatever the hell they're called) for AYGB and the other digest projects
CDs I have. Noticed several times that people thanked others for these and
I tried a link that Dirk had for them in an old submission to the digest,
but it didn't work. Is there a beast like this online somewhere? Could
someone be so kind as to provide a link for me?

Also, after that scare I put into people regarding Mrspink's website, I
can't find it. I've been using mrspink.co.uk as the address, but perhaps
that's an out of date web address. I also sent her an email at the
elsavannah @ aol.com address that I snagged from a digest I am reading today,
but it bounced, so I am flummoxed.

I've been reading the excitement regarding the reissues coming out
everywhere but here (the US). There was supposition that the reissues would
be out here at least a year from the 8/22/2000 original release date. I
have the reissues, don't remember exactly WHEN I picked them up, but I know
I got 'em at a Tower Records here in the Bay Area. So how long did it take
before Polydor decided to grace us heathens with the Reissues?

That's all for now....have a terrific 3 day weekend peoples!

one day off this week'

My name is Jennifer (Reddin) Wilson.  I live in Renton, WA (a suburb of Seattle) and have a 16-month old son, James.  I met and married a fellow digester, Bill Wilson, 5 years ago.  I got into Level 42 in the mid-80s, when I lived in Arkansas.  I heard “Something About You” and was hooked!  I saw the original Level 42 in Dallas, TX twice – once opening for Madonna, and once playing a small outdoor venue by themselves.  Of course, I traveled to the UK with other digesters to meet Mark at Joe Daflos on the IOW in 1998, and also with digesters again in the UK for the One Man tour in 1999.  I miss all you digesters out there! J

Hi y'all,
As I live on the isle of wight, I thought I would let you know that there was a big interview in the weekend section of our local paper, The Isle of Wight County Press! I was going to scan the section, but it is actually on the web site!
Anyone interested, here's a link that I hope will work, but it might only work for a week ok.

Some interesting stuff in there, especially about L42's new album!!!!

Cheers

Dave
