>> From: Tom Foolery <grooveyardtom @ yahoo.com> Friesen, the only reason to love "Set Me Up" from Guaranteed is . . . it would be a bitchin' song to drum to, with headphones on so you can't hear the lyrics. << Hmmm. I still think it's a great tune. And you're right, it's classic rock flailing from Gary Husband. And speaking of Gary, I bumped into him on the Drummerworld forum, and he says he tracked all drums for the new Level 42 album in two days flat.(!!) He claims he can't remember a thing about it. Should be interesting. >> From: mikethepom <mikethepom @ yahoo.com> I always thought Level 42 could have been a good guest band on The Young Ones. << I've only seen Dexy's Midnight Runners on that show. Checking the web, I see a huge list of interesting guests for only 12 episodes of the show. How did I miss them?! >> From: Doug White <bigdp @ stanford.edu> the movie title "Silver Streak" as his subject line. I loved the movie.....will admit to having seen it more than once in the theatre. << The climactic station sequence was filmed just down the street from me at Union Station. Ooh and aah. >> From: Doug White <bigdp @ stanford.edu> Who made the switch to the web digest? << When the web digest was the only choice, I checked it out, but the vibe was very different. I guess I was used to the slow motion one-comment-a-day style of conversing, so I didn't like the fast pace of the forum. But then, quite a while later, I joined a different forum, and found it pretty good. I check back into the Level 42 web digest maybe twice a year, and even though I'm now much more familiar with the forum style, I find that there's just nothing there to hold my attention for very long. My point? Um, loverly day today, ain't it? >> From: Doug White <bigdp @ stanford.edu> First up today is my report on Tom 'Terrific' Trudell's CD Emerald Soul "Another Meaningless Crisis"....the first thing I thought after first listen is that I have NOTHING in my CD collection that is remotely like it. This is such a good collection of songs and trains of thought I don't have words in my vocabulary that can remotely do justice to my pleasure with this album. << Ah yes, where else can you get pictures of nebulae and dust mites side by each? I'm sure it's some message about the link between the very small and the very large, but I'm not quite up to the analysis. Of course, like all good digesters I picked up my copy a couple of years ago. Because, y'know, you're not a proper full fledged digester unless you've had Another Meaningless Crisis. http://www.emeraldsoul.com/ ...Alex... | ||

Hey Doug - MIKEY here - great to see you reading the old digests back, reading your messages have brought back a huge amount of great memories back from the L42 Digest heydays back in the 90's! Yes, g-bladder surgery was not that bad to be honest, the g-b attacks beforehand were much more painful if truth be told! Doug, nice to see you and your posts on here - look forward to future discussions/debates! I wish Tucker Haas was still around, I have not seen him in over 6 years now - how time flies - miss ya Tuck! MIKEY (aka MIKEY 42) PS: I have always loved the Guaranteed album, despite its' less than stellar following! __________________________________________________ |
