I have a single ticket for the show at the Royal Albert Hall for sale. All I
want is face value, which I believe was around £30? A great seat, and this
will probably be the best gig of the tour.

Email me at: mr_magill @ hotmail.com if interested.

I've uploaded Love In A Peaceful World which is available for download. And while you're there... do take a tour through the scans, it's amazing stuff :-)

Cheers,
Lars

Mike,

I really have to disagree with you here. After giving
these samples several listens, I'm inclined to say
that it has the flavor of the early stuff mixed in the
background (listen to keyboard chord progressions on
'Helltown Story') as well as the modern rock approach
of the latter releases (Guaranteed, for example). In
2006, the last thing I'd want to hear from Level 42
(in terms of new material anyway) is a '44', a 'Mr.
Pink Revisited', and so forth. Art (and life in
general for that matter) should always be about moving
forward and trying new things. There would be
absolutely no reason for MK to record a new album of
old sounds. If he wanted to go in that direction, he
could just do what's he been doing for the past
several years and tour behind the old material. This
is a new album with new music (albeit with familiar
grooves and sounds), and that's the way it should be.
The "Retro" in Retroglide will no doubt be the feel
that's obviously at the heart of the music (because
there's definitely some jazz influences there) as well
as the bass driven rhythm. I agree with Winston that
Mark seems to have rediscovered his passion for the
bass. Between Retroglide and the recently released new
Scritti Politti album (Hi Andrew), I'm glad I've got
some new albums (from old favorites) to look forward
to.

>>Oh, what a shame, shame, shame, shame...

The album art so tantalisingy alludes to the iconic
female figure of 'Level 42' and 'The Early Tapes', and
yet what I've heard so far from those snippets is an
un-remarkable set of pop ballads.

What I do not, can not and absolutely will not
understand, is how a bass player so gifted with the
funk as Mr King obviously is, insists on cloaking his
playing in cloying pop tunes.

Why has he not decided to carry his career forward
into new funky territory, instead, on this latest
outing, leaving us with a cross between 'One Man' and
'Guaranteed' with nothing to compare with the
'Trash' ?

When we all know what we really want, what is really
unique, is the rest of the 'Trash', dragged back to
the time when they didn't put lyrics on
everything, and the groove got it on.

Why does he not want to follow up '42' and '43' ?? Was
Mr Pink not the sort of thing he wants to do? Was 'The
Essential' something he'd rather forget about ? <<
