Level 42 Digest for Sunday, January 08, 2006
Norman, Doug,

Post Pop Federation did record a 4 track EP that was available online a few years ago.  As far as i'm aware it's not available to buy anymore, as i think it was all distributed by the band themselves.  The 4 tracks were written by Mike, Roland and the third member who's name escapes me, but the stand out track of the 4 is the opening track, Magical Day, which is sung by Mike.  It wouldn't be out of place on Changes at all.

I promised a copy of this disc to Rainer Zielbauer a long time ago - Rainer, i haven't forgotton, but I can't find the disc anywhere at home!  It must be in a box in my mum's loft, because i stored some of my meany cd's there when i moved into my new flat last year.

Once i find it i'll happily send an mp3 or copied disc to those who want it.  Watch this space.

There have been references to a group call Stargirl (?) who opened for Mark
on the One Man Tour, I think. Is it possible to buy their music? What can
their sound be compared to, in other words what group or person sounds
similar? I tried Googling them, but got no coherent hits.
A few years ago, Stargirl rebranded themselves as "Laine". I quick tour around Google hasn't turned up any information on them, and the last time I was able to reach their website (www.lainemusic.com), the tour information was about a year out-of-date, so I can only assume they've gone on to other things. Shame, because I really liked their music (I'd call them a bit of rock/pop with a tad of a post-grunge sound). Since they appear to no longer be around, I can see about putting up a few MP3s (I rather liked Laine's London's Waiting as well as Stargirl's Bad Hair Day (in my mind).

As much as I enjoyed Stargirl opening at Leicester DeMontford and Wolverhampton, I think most people agreed that the support act that opened at Shepherd's Bush was simply amazing! Unfortunately, nobody can seem to remember who they were...

Da Lata, which IS being referenced in recent (to me) digests sounds like an
interesting group, I haven't looked them up yet, but can CDs of theirs be
had? I love Brazilian music...
I have Songs from the Tin (on which Mike does not play), and of course there are a gazillion dance/electronica compilations out there with Pra Manha (an excellent track). I've yet to pick up Serious. Several of us caught them live in Manhattan (Mike was touring with them) and their live shows were fantastic (even if it was 187 degrees in Central Park that day), so I recommend giving a listen.
