Level 42 Digest for Friday, February 17, 2006
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Let me say again, no no
no. Stating what they were does not constitute bashing
them. By any rational criteria they were relatively
minor. Their global success was ephemeral, their
influence on pop minimal. But they hold a very dear
place in my heart, as the first band I truly loved. As
time has passed it's become apparent that they weren't
as good as I thought they were when I was a teenager,
but that doesn't mean I don't still hold them in great
affection"

I'm fairly sure that this opinion is shared by more people here than we'd all like to admit.  When i was a teenager - which wasn't that long ago compared to Andrew - i bought up everything L42 i could on vinyl and i listened to it endlessly.  No other artist was allowed on my turntable, and this obsession lasted far longer than it really should have.  For example, while my mates at school were raving on about this amazing new band named Nirvana, how they were the greatest thing in rock music, nay, music as a whole, for our generation, i was still spinning The Pursuit of Accidents in my bedroom.  Don't get me wrong, i've no real regrets over this, but it does make me wonder how many great bands i missed out on in my youth.

I would like to point out that my music collection is now incredibly large and varied, L42 rarely get an outing and i've since bought Nevermind and absolutely love it...

>You saw KRAFTWERK??? You lucky bastard.

Yeah but he also went to see Kajagoogoo.  This may explain why he titled one of his posts a while back "The Never Ending Story", although quite why every single post back in the dawning days of the digest was named after a film still escapes me...
