>I was interested in Doug White's e-mail yesterday and comments
that the Guaranteed album was "bashed". >I really liked this album -

The Guaranteed album is a strange one. It
does get bad press here on a regular basis, but it also has it's supporters
too. For me, there isn't really a standout track on the album, and
the choice of My Father's Shoes as a single still puzzles
me. Like it or loathe it, it was never going to make an
impression on the charts, was it?
When Guaranteed first came out back in '91 I
have to admit that i thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, but now
it's the least played L42 album on the shelf. I think the reason i
took to it so strong at first was because of the seemingly endless delay in the
album's release. I know this was due partly to a change
in record company, but it still seemed like an eternity between SATS
and Guaranteed, although thankfully we had Changes to plug the gap in a
way. I travelled to one of the Hammersmith gigs in Dec '90 and, like
most i'm sure, felt that the album would be out straight after, but it was still
months away.
Anyway, i don't want this to turn into another
Guaranteed bashing - goodness knows we've had enough of them on here - but
i genuinely think that Guaranteed suffers from the fact that L42 fans
anticipated it's release for so long, that when it finally arrived, most found
themselves wondering what all the fuss had been
about. Ascent Media Group Ltd, 1 Stephen Street, London W1T 1AL web: http://www.ascentmedia.co.uk The information contained in this e-mail is confidential and may be subject to legal privilege. Doug,
Have you really nothing else better to do then read
old digests?
Most of them were not of much interest the first
time round!
Oh well perhaps it's just me.
Jules.

Since last weeks discussion on Trash CDs degradation I
have been playing mine non stop. I love some of the stuff on there; you can hear
some of the jazz influences that were being integrated in the 15 Apollo nights
era. (and an electric drill I think. Not so sure about the inclusion of the
banjo - but each to his own!
Come on baby, throw your body over. Count up to
three and then jump!
