PS Top 5 Take 6 tracks not on their own albums. Just
because I'm bored and felt like it:

Ridin' The Rails (with KD Lang, from the album Dick
Tracy)
Straighten Up And Fly Right (with Nnenna Freelon, from
the album Soulcall)
It's All Right With Me (with Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat
Band, from the album XXL)
Revelation (with The Yellowjackets, from the album
Live Wires)
I'm Always Chasing Rainbows (from the album Glengarry
Glen Ross)
For that alone, you are the man.  I thought I was the only person who ever heard that version of Straighten Up and Fly Right because whenever I mention how amazing that track is, I am always met with a blank stare.  Nobody has a clue that the track exists and it is amazing.  Thank you for handing me vindication...

Take 6 has had its ups and downs for me.  I used to be in a very good coed a capella group in college, and we actually performed several of their songs - one of my favorite performances in any ensemble over the last 20 years was a show where there were 18 of us singing Goldmine and hitting every note perfectly.  Having to sing their material makes you appreciate even more how intricate their harmonies are.  In 1993 to help train my ear and harmonizing skills I decided to record a Take 6 track and sing all six parts myself, which I did.  I chose Mary and I have to say it came out well.  I sang five of the parts with my natural voice, and the walking bassline was done by using a machine called a Vocalist, which dropped my voice an octave.

I digress - back to the group.  The CDs where they had too many instruments were a real turnoff for me so they lost me for a little while.  As AG said, they often do their best stuff for other people - either backing them up or on other CDs.  I will have to give them a fresh listen.  I will say that often when I want to practice singing [something I don't do often enough] I will put on the track I L-O-V-E U and then try to sing each part in succession.  That is a great track, especially the solo!

Hi Adam,

Now, If'n Id'a known that Mr. McKnight was gonna do a
concert as lead singer of KISS, that's one I woulda
paid big dollars to see. :)

I always make room for others whose musical tastes are
different - thanks for chiming in. Honestly, I think I
may have been slightly confusing McKnight with R
Kelly, who I think is a pedophile or something.
But all of them are better singers than I am.

Hi AG,

To become an American citizen, you must complete some
paperwork and establish some legal residency. There is
also a 100 question test on the Constitution, flag
symbolism and history. I can help you with the answers
to those. It also helps to bring in a marketable skill
- failing that, there is a lottery where pooled
applicants in low-skilled positions are randomly
selected for citizenship at a rate of 1 for every
500,000,000 applicants - from such low skilled fields
as agricultural farm laborers, "sweatshop" garment
industry employees, and English Academicians.

Your point about the morbundity of the digest of late
is well taken - even Mo is quoting the entire digest
in her response, just to liven things up a bit. Zing,
that was a breath of fresh ammonia!

And, Mikey, great news of a release date for
Retroglide!!! The Level 42 marketing genius continues
- probably not much else in the news on 9.11.06.

I am not responsible for any of the above comments. I
have snuck out of my shackles, unhooked the lithium
IV, and I'm using the psychiatrist's computer while
he's not looking. Clearly the man has no idea of the
capacities of human nature.

gotta go,
-Tom

>Ah, you underestimate the goodwill of this august list
of 467 almost completely non-contributory funketeers.
I had no less than FIVE responses, which with a swift
sum I estimate to be roughly FIVE more than people
normally get when they ask something. I can only put
this down to either:

I'm sure i'd have offered some assistance had i ever heard of Take 6.  And lived in America.  Not sure which is deemed to be worse...

>Level 42 has signed with W14/Universal Records and the album Retroglide will be released on Monday, >September 11, 2006 in advance of their autumn tour.

OK, before it even begins, let's get the whole 9/11 release date "scandal" put to bed.  It's a date.  The 11th of September happens to fall on a Monday this year, and albums are released on Mondays.  I seriously doubt it'll make even a slight difference to sales, or lack of...

I'm more interested in the fact that it will be a major label release and not another homework project for Mark.  At least my copy of Retroglide will last longer than my copy of Trash.

ps - AG, you've already used The Sixth Sense as a subject title.  God only knows when, but you've definitely used it.  Must try harder - 100 lines please: "M. Night Shyamalan's 'Signs' is a perfectly coherent and Oscar worthy piece of cinematic bliss."
