mikethepom,

Excellent idea... here goes...

I'm Julian Arnold. I'm 38 and I live in Dublin, Ireland. I got into Level 42 around the release of World Machine, once I listened to WM and then A Physical Presence I was hooked. My wife thinks I'm a nut! Play bass too, although I look more like I'm wrestling with it!

Julian

Thanks for the list, Win. It's relaxed me bigly. Now
all I need is someone to stick them onto a disk for me
...
The only one I have is Strike's 'I Have Peace' - I had
to get that via the lovely Mandy Farmer in the UK.

"I said are you okay?! That's good news."

Mike (Sydney City Milkman)

P.S. Sorry about my last post, a naive attempt to see
how many Digest viewers there really are!

Ok!
Here is Giandomenico Fraschini (Giando), living in Varese, near Milan, Italy.
I'm 31 and I'm a creative and copywriter for advertising.
I got into Level 42 back in 1985 hearing "Something about you", and then i discovered
all the old songs and i went crazy for them. Never saw them live.
This year i've had the opportuinity to see Mike Lindup performing live in Rome and Milan and met him as i met Phil Gould, too, and they were both kind and marvellous with me.
I just missed Mark and Boon! But who knows?
Level 42 will be my favourite band forever.
I play also piano and keys and L42 inspired me a lot.

Ciao,

Giando :-)

Here's an idea. Everyone - that means everyone,
especially traditional non-posters - write their
personal version of this:

I'm Mike Bartlett. I'm 43 and live in Sydney,
Australia. I got into Level 42 when I lived in
Gurnard, IoW in 1980-82. I have an 18 year old son
who's also a big fan.

Okay then, Daniel James, I'm 36 and live in Seattle. I got into Level 42 when I was 16 (after hearing Leaving Me Now) and living in Sacramento. I have a 16 month old son, who will undoubtedly become a big fan :)

Please everyone, feel free to add yourself onto this cool little Frappr page so we can see graphically where everyone is. You can also add pictures of yourself, and a profile:

Per request:

I'm Matt Areford.
I'm 38 and live in Columbia, South Carolina, United States of America
I got into Level 42 when I lived in Hampden-Sydney, Virginia, USA, in 1986
or so.
I first heard "Something About You," but was more impressed with the US
follow up, "Leaving Me Now." However, "Running in the Family" was the first
CD I could find. Played it to death, then slowly sought out the rest of the
back and forward catalog as the years passed. Every CD has been like a
finding a new treasure for me. All my friends and family know I love the
band, but I have never "converted" anyone to the cause. I was even a member
of the fan club (only time I ever joined one).

Alex:
Maybe they can tell you are in Canada and they want to play you Loverboy.
...Do you have any FM records? Cameron Hawkins, Ben Mink, Martin Deller,
Nash the Slash....you gotta be into Martin Deller.
 <<

Ah, Colin, you bring back the memories.

Once, at a fairly high-profile gig I was playing, Mike Reno (lead singer)
of Loverboy came up to me as I was playing, in the middle of a song(!!) and
asked if he could play my drums. He's obnoxious and egotistical, and his
band would make AG choose Lighthouse Family for preference. Guess what my
answer was.

Indeed, I was quite an FM fan. They played my high school back in the day.
I was instantly hooked by "Phasers on Stun" on their first album. Martin
Deller was a minor influence on my playing, too. He was doing some stuff
that is way easy for me now, but as a teenager it was intriguingly
difficult. I liked Nash the Slash for style, but Ben Mink is a freakin'
monster musician! He's the man behind the fabulous K.D.Lang song "Constant
Craving," for those who've never heard of him (i.e., everybody here minus
two).

I saw the show when FM opened for Rush at the now-flattened Varsity
Stadium. At the time, it was my ideal pairing of bands. (Shortly
thereafter I stumbled upon "Out of Sight, Out of Mind," and my musical life
changed forever.)

  ...Alex...

Fun idea :)  I seem to remember doing this about 12 years ago, but at least the 'age' part has changed so here goes the update:  age is now officially "late 30's".  I got into Level 42 with U.S. release of World Machine (mid 80's)...  at the time, I was awestruck both the Something About You, as well as the very cool accompanying music video.  My extra comment is of historical interest to show what a loyal fan I am. :)  During my first job out of college, I got involved with some work on the Internet.  The WWW wasn't around then, but I spent hours chatting with folks over USENET, looking for anyone/everyone that had ever heard of Level 42.  Ultimately I held an administrative role with a Unix server, andin 1993 set up the Level 42 Digest as a forum to chat about the band. The rest is history, and overall its been a pretty interesting 12.5 years.  I'm not sure if there's anyone still here from those early early days, but there seems to be at least a few folks from the mid-90's.

cheers
Eric

I'm Mark Woodhouse. I'll be 40 in March & I live in South Shields which is in the North East of England.
I got into Level 42 in the summer of 1985 after hearing Mark King enthusing about the Physical Presence album on Radio 1 one Saturday afternoon.
My 8 year old son is also a fan of Level 42 (And Jethro Tull & Saxon & Seal) due to the concentrated "In Car Indoctrination" programme I run!
