Oh, what a shame, shame, shame, shame...

The album art so tantalisingy alludes to the iconic female figure of
'Level 42' and 'The Early Tapes', and yet what I've heard so far from
those snippets is an un-remarkable set of pop ballads.

What I do not, can not and absolutely will not understand, is how a bass
player so gifted with the funk as Mr King obviously is, insists on
cloaking his playing in cloying pop tunes.

Why has he not decided to carry his career forward into new funky
territory, instead, on this latest outing, leaving us with a cross
between 'One Man' and 'Guaranteed' with nothing to compare with the
'Trash' ?

When we all know what we really want, what is really unique, is the rest
of the 'Trash', dragged back to the time when they didn't put lyrics on
everything, and the groove got it on.

It has worked for Marcus Miller, it has worked for Wotjek Pilichowski,
it has worked for the Y-Chromo-Boys (who, in my opinion, deserve every
penny spent by a Level 42 fan on 'Retroglide').

Does anyone have a contact with Mark King so that we can ask him this
basic question:-

Why does he not want to follow up '42' and '43' ?? Was Mr Pink not the
sort of thing he wants to do? Was 'The Essential' something he'd rather
forget about ?

It's a shame.

Cheers,

Mike.
