Level 42 Digest for Monday, April 25, 2005
Now that the iPod chat seems to have dies down, i was wondering if anyone else had actually gone to see Mike perform on his recent live dates?  If so, were you as impressed with his stripped down version of Something About You as i was?

Hi all

I have an appeal from Bluey (Incognito) of the Hope Collective and worthy it is to!
You may already know that after the Tsunami disaster Bluey decided to set up a fast yet affective way of raising funds for the people who lost homes aswell as families that are still without basic amenities such as fresh water, shelter and life in general.
Well with help from many of his friends in the music industry, the Hope Collective was set up in not only helping raising money for the Asian basin but also to help those affected by famine in the Darfur region of Sudan and Playing Alive, a charity set up to help people was set up.
Please do check out the website as well as donate and buy the single from http://www.expansionrecords.com  aswell as check out the official website of the Hope Collective at http://www.giveandletlive.com
There was official release for this single a couple of weeks ago that went really well and the artists involved all clubbed together to create an autographed Hope Collective photo album which can be found on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2328&item=7509621005&rd= 1
100% of all the funds raised will go to helping those less fortunate than us.
Please do be generous and please also watch the video of the guys recording the single which features many artists such as Chaka Khan, Jocelyn Brown, Steve Winwood, Maysa, Amp Fiddler, Carleen Anderson, Maxi Jazz (Faithless), Raghav, Omar, Taka Boom, Kingdom Choir, Don - E, Sonique, L.C.G.C, Chris Ballin, Imaani, Lauraine Cato, Lifford,Tony Momrelle, Noel McKoy Roots Manuva, Dynamite Mc, Ty, and Killa Kela and many more......

Its a worthy cause and we can all help in one way or another to spread the word about this well intentioned and worthy cause.

Sharmin

Yeah, that appears as the first link when I google "aac vs mp3" and it
also appears to be the only article claiming AAC to be inferior. I
clicked through about six other links and they all claim 128kbs AAC
files to be comparable to a MP3 file at 256+. Whatever. Everyone's ears
are different and I can't tell the difference between a 128kbs AAC and
a 160kbs MP3 (the AAC might come off a little brighter but hell, if I'm
using headphones or listening in the car, there's enough ambient noise
to cover the difference anyway). I say go with your preference--and my
preference is to use a format that's compatible with devices other than
the iPod. My DVD player will play CDs and DVDs loaded with MP3s, and I
also have a device made by Philips called a "Streamium" (one of the
coolest consumer devices ever) that'll stream mp3s from my PC upstairs
to my stereo downstairs over wifi (will also work with several other
audio formats, as well as divx and xvid video, and will also stream
Internet radio streams from Shoutcast, Live365 and others as well as
Internet video from Yahoo and iFiLM -- this thing rocks).

I thought the full version of PocketTunes Deluxe did this, but I could
be wrong. I only had the standard version back when I was doing the
same thing you're doing (my SD cards have now been converted over for
use in my digital camera, and in my new GPS-enabled PDA for storing
maps).

I completely agree with you! Funny, I was actually reading some of your
old postings a few days ago. Julian recently commented about how he'd
been around since Sep '95 and I went back through the archives to see
how long ago I joined up -- and somehow I got back reading all the old
Joe Parrington stuff. If anyone wants a blast from the past, go read
his first rant (which I believe was his second post to the
digest--about what utter rubbish it was--his third post all but ignored
the fact that he'd pissed everyone off, and then his fourth was simply
to say a big sod off to all those who called him on his crap -- funny
stuff).

If anyone can point me to this setting, I'd be most appreciative. I
couldn't find it on my version of iTunes (which is apparently the
latest). I'm about to switch over to using my Mac with the iPod (I've
switched over just about everything else) and maybe it'll be a feature
of the Mac version of iTunes. I can't wait to start writing some cool
AppleScript code to automate the synching of my iPod!
