| The first Level 42 song I ever heard was 'The Sun Goes Down' and I thought it was well cool. I distinctly remember going into HMV on 'The moor' in Sheffield, and buying 'Level 42' and 'The Early tapes' on cassettes. I remember listening to them on a walkman as big your average jewellery box and thinking the songs were well too deep for me, but I was only about 14. I used to be a Level 42 collector you know. If anyone's looking for copies of 'Level 42 - The Definitive Biography' I have some. Email me for details. L()Z | ||

It was about 6.15am listening to Ray Moore on Radio 2 from my room at the Royal Marines Training Centre (Lympstone, Devon, UK) in late 81 / early 82. I was polishing shoes and ironing shirts, having just cleaned a toilet. On came Starchild .. wow. Still one of my favourites and only the second record (at that time) to have had that effect on me. The first ? Summer '72 I think. Steely Dan - Do it again. Electric Sitar .. fantastic. The latest - Faithless - Miss U less, see U more from 'No Roots' I'm missing the Feb gig too. Hope to catch up later in the year somewhere. regards Simpson ___________________________________________________________ Book yourself something to look forward to in 2005. "I love Mike's work. Changes is a good album. But it ain't got the balls or the pain of much of the _One Man_ material. Of course, Mark had the advantage of Boon's lyrics to play off." I'm afraid i have to disagree. If
anything, save for a few exceptions, i find One Man lacks balls. Changes
is a far more personal and heartfelt album, which is difficult to say about One
Man when Boon wrote the lyrics for a number of the tracks. Having said
that, I would insist that both albums are essential to any Level 42 fans
collection.
I wrote a post
about Influences at the end of last year, suggesting that it was
closer to a Level 42 album than a Mark King solo album. Consider the
following: out of the five tracks, one was a cover and two were co-written
with Boon and Mike played and sang backing vocals throughout.
Controversial perhaps - my point was to generate a discussion, which
failed miserably... I remember the first time I saw LFT it was at the Redbridge Collage about
1980-81 after hearing Love Games, we went 'backstage' (the little room
behind the makeshift stage) said hi to them got talking and was invited to the
next gig at the Zero 6 in Southend then the Ilford Palais and so on. we were
known at the time as a 'tribe' called the Havering Funk Force, god those were
the days. to this day not a day goes past when I do not play a LFT album or
record, always have a tape in my car. Is this my midlife crisis?

Something About You. After I heard that track I went and found every disc
by them I could. It took me two and a half years. |
