re: the recent request to contribute to the american red cross.
 
it's probably only me that feels like this, and I realise I'm going to get crucified on here for writing this, but if the richest nation on earth can't find the money to rescue, feed, water and clothe its own citizens, maybe it ought to stop spending hundreds of billions of dollars stomping around the globe telling other countries how to run themselves.

let me make it plain that it's not that I don't have sympathy for those people who are suffering in
Louisiana at the moment, of course I do - in fact my sympathy is increased since it appears that the ones suffering most were those who were just too damn poor to get out in time. if that's the kind of society out and out capitalism gets you - one where the police are too preoccupied with looters to contribute to the aid effort - then you can keep it.

please don't send me abusive e-mails on this subject, I won't respond to them and I won't be commenting on this again.
