How do I feel about True Believers? It is the bomb! I remember
one of the years I came over for a bunch of shows and it was added to the
setlist [1999? 2000?]. At the time everyone was very good about
keeping setlists secret, and I flew over a bit later in the week and thus many
others knew and I didn't. When I was standing in the Jazz Cafe and the
first few notes were played, a let out a loud shriek - my face was sheer
bliss. The live version sounded so great! True Believers is one of
those Level 42 songs that I feel strongly would have been an R&B hit had it
been marketed that way; the bassline is just too funky. True Colors has
some great songs; I've also always been partial to My Hero since the bassline is
so different from most songs...
The other two songs that I feel sound amazing live are World Machine
[because it is a REAL bass sound with thumping and plucking] and Sunbed
Song. Sunbed Song live is so tight that it is downright scary. I'm
still waiting for The Machine Stops to be played live...

Answering to Stephen White, I have to agree with
him.
True Believers is my favorite too.
The lyrics are great - but I am not able to
understand the meaning of them completly.....(I am Italian, sorry for my
english)...
Can anyone help me?
Greetings from a very cold Italy

Yeah, but's generally the status quo around here- posts don't get responded
to. A few weeks back, I wrote two rather lengthy posts about Mark's retreading
of the same material over and over again, some thoughts on both Mark and Mike's
solo output, and a few other related items- mainly to get some discussion going.
Know how many responded? One. One person took the time- no one else could be
bothered. As I've mentioned earlier, it kind of gives one the impression
that he's wasting time that could be spent more productively elsewhere.

Absolutely!! Mike's solo releases are the only non-band stuff I reach
for on a regular basis. In fairness, I have to admit that I don't have Phil's
drum sampling CD, but I suspect that's be more of a novelty to listen to than
anything else. It'll be interesting to see what the two of them come up
with.

I personally will be very excited to hear a Mike and Phil collaboration, but I'm not getting excited yet. I'll get excited when I see "it's out!" or "Go here to hear a clip". -Zak | ||

| Hi All. I started this by saying I didn't like "The Chant Has Begun" - and did this make me a bad person? My favorite L42 songs are - "Leaving Me Now" and "A Floating Life" There are so many others of course, but these two stand out. Happy days. | Let's just see if and what materialises before we get too excited. I am gagging to hear Phil again some 18 years on from last seeing him play live in the flesh. That snippet from Mikes wedding proved that awesome groove never went away, but can Mike harness him long enough to secure enough material for release? The thing that would cause real excitement would be a release of a CD of the collaboration along with some live dates to support it. Now I'm dreaming again. |
