I have always been a fan of this album, despite hearing and reading dreadful reviews by fans and press alike - however this album has special meaning for me - it was given to me while I was serving in the US Air Force in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (an advanced copy a very good friend at RCA) in 1991.  I was in heaven when I played it over and over again that first night, I must have listened to it at least 10 times.   I have always enjoyed this album and I think it is one of their better albums!

I did sound, sonically, different - but considering what L42 had been through at that point, a band change, a death, a rocky marriage for MK, some internal band problems - it is a wonder we got an album at all!   I like the "rock" feel to it and the slow ballads towards the end.

I have noticed that not a single track off of htis album has been played live since that 1991-92 tour - I wonder if we will ever hear any of these tracks "live" again?

I recently listened to Guaranteed after a bit of gap and unfortunately it has not stood the test of time as well as other '42 albums. Sure there are great songs on there such as  the superb "lasso the moon" and a "with a little love". But i probably enjoyed them more to the sort of mood I was when listening to it.

These days my '42 albums of choice seem to be the earlier ones such as "Level 42" and "Standing In the light", as again they have seemed to stood the test of time better than some of the later albums. That said, I love the resurgence version of "forever Now" to bits - so maybe it is just me??

I will probably get out to see the london Show by Marks Band (who are all great musicians), to reminisce about old times and to hear some of the great song that shaped my formative years. Yes I would love to also hear some newer stuff from Mark and the boys, but unfortunately the essence of what was Level 42 to me has long since gone......

Still good to check in on the digest to find out whats going on in the world of '42. Would be great to have something new to talk about. Maybe there will be, who knows???

Hope you are well,

Michael

Yes. Talk them down gently, and keep some munchies handy.
