I asked a question re. The Sun Goes Down 12" last week, but no one responded at all, so I'll try again. I know the cover for this single is available with both blue and white lettering, but which is the mistake/rarest out of the two? Come on, someone must know. Also, I've been having a clearout of my cd collection and I've discovered a few cd's I've got duplicates of. I don't want any money for them, so if anybody can provide a good home for the following discs then drop me a line, (although a copy of the To Be With You Again cd single would be nice...) Take A Look, cd single Love In A Peaceful World, pts 1 & 2 cd singles My Fathers Shoes, 1 track cd promo Steve ************************************************************* This is a confidential email. | -Loz > The ‘bird’ on the cover of the Level 42 > LP and numerous other places is T’pring > – Vulcan princess. Yes, but little, aside from that, is known. I believe the biography dismisses all discussion of album covers which, to me, has always been a slightly interesting thing to learn about. (e.g. at which point in making an album does, say, Phil Collins have an epiphany to, yet again, put his ugly mug on the album cover?) The cover is how one chooses to visually present the work. Display, not too mention sell it to the public. (think of all the meetings for _Smell the Glove_) This has always been a curious aspect, to me, of Level42. They have always seemed to be a band desperately looking for a hook, an imagine. Just note how many times their “level42” logo has changed, finally (kind of) settling on one with _Running in the Family_, their 7th major release, to then drop it again (or morph it around, or not use it to its fullest). Was “the princess” painting simply bought and then used? Was it commissioned? And why was this the image settled on to represent the work for the self-titled album? It does have 1970s tinges to it…but all I can really think of was that they took a bunch of group photos and none of them seemed proper front cover material. I can only imagine that the afro Mike was carrying at the time offset any type of balance with any photo. Damn shame whatshisname dropped the new bio project; there are quite a few things about this little band we don’t know. I believe we can totally rule out ever getting a true answer (not too mention a punctual one) from MK, but I would have to think Mike would be pretty forthcoming on just about anything he was asked. I would say the same for Boon, but the closing of a public site seems to be a step back in the way of public access. I can try to type a not-too-wordy question and post it on Mike’s site, which he does seem to answer every month or so, or someone less abrupt than I can give it a go. j(ay) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Man, that "L()Z" guy really dislikes Mark.
When I am having a good day, reading his anti-Mark posts puts a sort of cloud over it nad makes me sad. I have met Mark and I think he is a nice guy.
It was backstage outside after last fall's Glasgow gig. He looks alot older than I thought he would look, alot shorter too. The show was very energetic and I blame whatever lack of soul on the musicians. OK, so Boon and Phil and Mike are more soulful than we thought while they were together. The current line-up is less soulful and it's no wonder I was the only Black in the audience!
Anyways, Mark was very nice and already had a sharpie pen to signs autographs with. It was hella cold outside but he wasn't rushing to get onto the warm tour bus so he could commune with us fans. Not shy at all, almost... jolly.
Mike is also very nice. I've met him 3 times (Madonna tour in '87, Da Lata tour and this month). I think I may have startled him with my hip-hop ebonics ("big ups, Mike") but he seemed enthusiastic when I mentioned his early works ("Woman") and how "Changes" is one of my all-time, life-changing, favorite songs.
So the band split up. So the boys have different personalities. Things happen. It's like parents divorcing and us kids choosing sides between mommy (mike) and daddy (mark).

| Loz wrote: > The ‘bird’ on the cover of the Level 42 LP and numerous other places is > T’pring – Vulcan princess. Points of contention: 1. T'Pring was not a princess, if I recall that episode ("Amok Time") correctly. She was just a Vulcan babe who was betrothed to Spock. 2. The woman depicted on the Level 42 cover(s) is not actually T'Pring, but rather was only inspired by the character from Star Trek. I think the "Vulcan princess" thing is just a phrase MK or somebody in the L42 camp came up with to describe the cover. Debate? - Z | ||

Very appropriate since there is a Stanley Clarke CD called Vulcan Princess, and Mark is a big fan. As has been said before, take a listen to Heathrow and the song Lopsy Lu from Vulcan Princess back to back and you can hear it... | ||

| What was the best thing about Janet Jackson's interview on the Letterman show last night? It was even better with the sound turned down, and Level 42 blasting from the speakers! (Hey, weren't nuthin' wrong with that picture!) ;o) But what a liar she is. Geez, why couldn't she just be a grown-up and own her deeds. We usually forgive those who admit their mistakes. What an idiot. Z |
