And petrol tastes better as well. Weird.

Hey Levellers!

Haven't checked the digest too much lately, but I
haven't noticed a report on the Bratislava gig. Here's
mine.

Mark & C played after three (yes, 3!) other bands in
the closure evening of the Bratislava jazz festival. I
only saw two of those, and E.S.T. from Sweden was a
very pleasant surprise.

The place was packed full, with a mixed
seating-standing arrangement. Very young audience for
a jazz festival. From the enthusiasm of the crowd you
could see that Slovakians haven't experienced too many
such events in history. Three cheers for the audience,
as they were the best I've seen (equalling
Groningen's).

The band came in around 22.30 (that's 10.30 pm in the
UK), and stayed until well over midnight. The sitting
crowd disappeared at their coming, turning into a
giant dancing and clapping mass. Really awesome, and
you could see Mark enjoyed it. I was with another
Italian friend (who asked me for a CD after the
gig!)and we hooked up with a couple of Slovakian
girls, who were literally trembling after the show.
They especially liked Sean's and Gary's performance,
which isn't hard to explain since both of them were
astounding. Mark was in great shape too, and Nathan
and Lyndon played their role well.

The gig was perhaps the best I've seen after the 2001
Jazz Cafe one. The song list is below for your
convenience (nothing new in there). My personal
favourite was Running in the Family, closely followed
by Follow Me and The Sunbed Song (that drums bit still
makes me stand in awe).

The gig was really energic, the acoustics good (though
a bit too much echo from the back when you danced :o),
the crowd fantastic (it was hard to send them away
after the encore) and the setting good (though the
giant screen failed for a half hour while L42 were
playing).

All in all, a very well spent 300 euros - yeah, that's
what the trip cost, including transport (long live
SkyEurope!), gig tickets, accommodation, food, beers
and a bit of shopping.

Cheers,
mac
