In reference to <I'm intrigued...what abrupt breakup is the American
rap music business trying to get over?>: Ha ha ha. I mean my boyfriend broke up with me. I have a high-stress job in a volatile market, and modern rock is not relaxing. Ha ha ha.

| Everyone who asked for one of the above should now have got it, or else find it arriving soon. There is an inlay and back cover pdf/jpg which some have received by e-mail, anyone who hasn't and wants them let me know. Apologies for the public airing of this message but it was the easiest way to contact everyone concerned. AG ________________________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Can’t say I understand this, since most if > not all "good" "classical" music is incredibly more > intense than the average pop tune. > These people just don’t know what to listen for. > Bach may be "relaxing" for some, to others it may > dazzle at near-headache level in the beauty and > complexity of it. Um, I guess I find that comment a little misleading. To suggest that someone who finds Classical music relaxing most likely knows nothing about music is frankly far more silly than to suggest that someone who lumps Bach into *classical* music (when he more clearly fits into the *baroque* period) knows even less about music (although I'd guess that most people lump renaissance, baroque and contemporary orchestral work in with classical either for lack of knowing better, or for ease). That point aside, are you suggesting then that The Well Tempered Clavier (since again, you mentioned Bach, and I assume you mean Johann Sebastian, not P.D.Q. or any of the other lesser-known Bachs) is intense, not relaxing? Or is it simply not “good” (and of course do we assume that your definition of good is to be acceptable to all of us or can it be open for interpretation). Likewise, I’m going to assume (again using Bach) that you find his Brandenburg Concertos to be either radically intense or pure crap. Two and Three part inventions? Intense, or utter bollocks... You see, all music is firstly open to interpretation by the listener. Secondly, it can certainly be more intense than the average pathetic attempt at music we hear in most pop music today. But to suggest that someone who finds Classical (or to be more precise, orchestral music), particularly the forms they might think of when listening to instrumental piano, to be relaxing must know nothing of music, is quite judgmental and not quite accurate. See, I generally find Classical music to be relaxing, even if it’s the more aggressive flavors (such as Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet Overture or 1812 Overture, or Chopin’s Piano Concerto #2), and I know plenty about music, having studied music history and theory for more than twenty years. Then again, perhaps you’re thinking of more modern works such as those of Charles Ives, which are in no way relaxing, to say nothing of being listenable! | ||
