Oh, and by the way, Tom....
I believe that the guitarist is Nathan King and
Sean "what's his name" is actually Freeman. And yeah, talk about Lyndon's
wardrobe choice :o) But all in all, it's a good DVD.
Cheers.... | ||

| Hey Don, you forgot about meeeeeee! I showed up at the tube stop outside Harrod's around the same time as Morgan and Tony. We kept looking at each other as though we were wondering if we were all part of the same group. Shortly after I showed up, Kristin Lage came up to me -- apparently she recognised me from a picture taken at one of the other levelfests... After a few other people showed (I can't remember exactly who made it there, but I believe Don and Eric did -- I know Winston and Lolita were delayed, one of several screw-ups from their travel agent), we headed up the street and into Hyde Park and had lunch at a cafe along The Serpentine. The rest of the day is a bit of a blur, but I do remember something about picking up shirts and Win & Lolita's abode, and tea at The Orangery (and my snapping up a few shots outside Kensington Palace). I remember the pancake house well; I remember talking the waitress into putting a Level 42 CD on the system, and walking about seventeen miles from there to pick up the nearest tube (or was that backwards? Maybe we walked 17 miles to get there, and caught the bus out of there). Afterwards we hung out at the Dog House for several hours... I've been back a few times; it's not the same anymore, but it's still a cool place to go, and brings back memories... ...and Don, I'll never forget you saving my life outside The Forum after the JTQ gig. You yanked me back onto the sidewalk just as a black cab zipped by. It surely would've taken me out! (I was pretty knackered) ...and who could forget the elderly couple who showed to see James Taylor. They made the best of it and I remember seeing them dancing around at one point! I remember the steam train deep into the Isle of Wight, and the lovely bus ride back to Ryde afterwards. I remember the Mikey phone call and Mark asking for the phone. I remember someone (Winston I believe) handing over a wedding invitation to Mark from Carl & Laurel. I also remember a few of us staying behind late on the IOW and coming up with the great idea of convincing everyone else that we went back to the bar, and that Mark showed up with a early copy of the new album (I seem to recall that at the time, it'd been named "Barking Moon" -- a sort of play on Mark King Boon). Anyway, someone asked me what it sounded like, and being the worst liar on the world, I said, "Oh it sounds a lot like the last album" and promptly changed the subject. I also remember the guys we met on the ferry back to Portsmouth who overheard our American accents and came over to chat. They offered us each a beer--they had some local beer (Carlsburg I believe) and started to offer us that and then got the bright idea of offering the Americans Budweiser, as though it was a generous gift! Still it was cool and we had a bit of a chat. Of course they asked us what it was like to live in a country where there were guns on every corner. One of us suggested they watch less television. I remember drinking Britpop at the Raytheon, taking pictures of Steve passed out in the crowd. Listening to Morgan and Adz take turns on the bass. I have a hilarious picture of Tony Sharp jamming on his pool-stick shaped guitar... And I remember sleeping in the relative luxury of The Marriot after meeting up with a few folks down in the bar ('cause obviously we didn't drink quite enough at the Raytheon). I remember spending 5 hours at The Bass Centre ("Morgan, we're leaving now." "No wait, I'm almost done") and being amazed at Morgan leaving with two Basses that set him back about eight-thousand quid (no joke). I've been back to Wapping a few times since then, but won't likely step foot into that place again, no matter where it's moved to. Lastly, I remember saying good-bye to everyone else as I was the last one to leave London. Winston and Lolita came to my hotel for an English Breakfast (my first one; it took several hours to recover from it) before they headed back to Heathrow. I spent a few more days and headed out to visit a friend in the docklands, and checked out some spots around Piccadilly. I remember quite a few fantastic levelfests and gatherings of friends since then, but the ILF '98 was the first, and one of the best. That's a toss-up between it and the One Man tour, which has a pretty special place in my heart for a lot of reasons -- but that's a story for another posting of I remembers... I haven't updated this page with any of the new pictures (I was able to recover about ten from my digital camera after it fried the memory card on the train to Portsmouth, plus I have scanned some of the many rolls of 35mm pictures I took), but there's a sample at: http://www.level42webdigest.com/~djames/london.html | ||

the DVD is excellent but maybe a bit short at 50
Minutes.
the Bass Guitarist is pretty cool Roscoe Beck
I believe
he does a solo at the end with his 6 sting Bass
which was very good.
An Impeccable Groove
