| "...The problem is... it doesn't sell, thankfully people innately know better." Hmmmm, try telling that to Island records regarding their Bob Marley back-catalogue. Go and ask A&M whilst your at it, if any of Sting's solo albums took a dent in sales because of his pseudo-communist-anti-fascist-touchy-feely rants. Oh yes, check out the worldwide sales of The Clash as well (now they didn't play Shea Stadium without shifting a few units). You want some music "about love, commitment, friendship"? Why not try digging out an S-Club7 CD from a bargain bin of CD's that don't sell any more? Plenty of good examples of nice, wholesome, family-friendly feel-good-factor tunes in there! Plenty of that material on post-Gould 42 as well - not that there's anything wrong with that, if it floats your boat. Music reflects life and emotion and songwriters respond to those things, when they feel they have something to say. One year you get Stevie Wonder writing "Living for the city" or "Village Ghetto land", another you get "I just called to say I love you". Take your pick, they all sold incredibly well. thedrumdoctor | ||

| Unfortunately on on KFI640 AM radio, as intro music for the Matt Drudge Report show (political stuff). The title track 'World Machine' played immediately following a commercial break, for nearly 1 full minute before Drudge stepped in to deliver his intro to tonights program. What a crazy thing to hear on US Radio in 2004. Maybe Drudge is a fan of socially conscious lyrics. Heavens knows those lyrics are a bit too confusing and dismal for my small mind. Steely Dan and such other lyrically intricate artists can really get on my nerves. :) -- Matt Rice, Doctoral Candidate and Research Assistant National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis UCSB Department of Geography +1 805 893 8652 (phone) Santa Barbara, CA 93106 +1 805 893 8617 (fax) rice @ geog.ucsb.edu http://www.geog.ucsb.edu/~rice |
