| Mikey Says >"Is this kind of language acceptable on the digest? Should we really be >mentioning the place where they bow down and worship at the feet of >'Mark King's Le*el 42'. I'll start taking my medicine again. Loz" >(WITH ALL DUE RESPECT) LOZ-LOZ-LOZ-LOZ-LOZ When are you going to get over >the Gould >Brother's departure? How much are Boon & Phil paying you to >constantly whine about what MK >has done with L42? I, like you, hope the >original 4 get together - but why moan about what (in >essence) is never >going to happen.....Wouldn't you rather have someone (either Mike, Mark, > >Boon, or Phil seperately) playing the music, than not at all? I know >you will write back and try (>again) to define what and who Level 42 are >and are not - but come on man - MOVE ON - I'll >bring you over some Prozac >when I come across the pond in a few weeks! Well said Mikey I tought all this was put to bed ages ago,but are they still moaning? (i didnt see the post your repling to). Your bound to get some stick for your post, off the AG fan club. so i thought i'd stick up for you first. to think they wonder why the digest number's keep going down. People come on board the digest to hear postive thing's about Level 42 and all they get is moaning about the new line up. No one can help the fact that the Gould's dont want to play for Level anymore. It's a shame, but Level goes on with or without them. Live with it! and i cant wait for Wolvehampton. Keep up the support for Level 42 Mikey! keith _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself with cool new emoticons http://www.msn.co.uk/specials/myemo | ||

| > 2. Vince Guraldi > From: Colin Gupta > > Tom, Andrew What's your take on Vince Guraldi? Though there are doubtless others I'll take the Andrew part, since I am probably the most vocal. My familiarity with Guaraldi is minimal, but perhaps one of the Digest's most estimable lurkers will pop out to comment - Dennis? > Diana Krall? At this point I offer a choice of responses. Response A - The A****** K** Response: Not bad. Response B - The Unexpurgated Version: I partly endorse Tom's opinion here, I do enjoy her singing style, albeit that it can get a bit intense for some of the material she chooses which leans to the predictable and bland. For performance of standards I enjoy Jane Monheit, although her exaggerated mannerisms make her an irritating watch in concert. Stacey Kent is a much more engaging performer, and her band has the incalculable advantage of featuring David Newton on piano, but her recordings are too leisurely for many (including me much of the time). Best of the bunch for me - for fear of seeming parochial - is Claire Martin. There's not a style of music she can't handle, and her repertoire takes eclecticism to a new level. Name me another jazz singer who would take on Thomas Dolby's 'The Key To Her Ferrari'. Not to mention, in amongst the standards, Paul Simon, Phoebe Snow, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Tom Waits. If you're feeling adventurous try this here box set - three terrific albums for 15 quid can't be bad. http://www.linnrecords.com/cd_information/cd_information.asp?jsavailable=true&RecordingID=145 Her next release is to be with Laurence Cottle's Big Band, and I'm positively salivating in anticipation. > What's the next best thing to Kind of Blue? I always say the one jazz album everyone should own is Art Pepper's 'Winter Moon'. > Are most people on the web digest? I heard recently that that one was going the way of this. It's hard to believe there are many people left who can get really fired up by Level 42, given that they've basically stood still for the last few years. It's all been said, hasn't it? Many times. This one seems to be getting down to a) people who really do think Level 42 were the best band in the world ever b) blind optimists who think there's still something great over the horizon (and good luck to you, I'm hoping the new Stevie Wonder album will deliver what everybody's been waiting for since 1976) and c) a handful of us who remember the old Digest with fondness. I stumbled across the Digest archives the other day. What fun we used to have in those dizzy days when subscriber numbers were going up (about 400 joined in the period I skimmed, the second half of 1998) and there were frequently days when 20 messages would be posted. Ah well. I guess at that point we didn't know what bathos was around the corner. AG ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Yahoo!
