Cracking post Mikey and really good to read your
comments.
I knew it was worth hanging in with the digest and
that there were a few decent fans still out there with a balanced view instead
of all this negativity I keep reading
Nice one
cheers
Pete

I visited mikelindup.com the other day and was somewhat disappointed to see it hadn't been updated since March. Does anyone know what Mike is up to at the moment or is there any news of a new song album or live appearances? Sorry about lack of updates. Mike is a father now, I'll let you know when there is a new update.
On another note, I've been rediscovering the Forever Now album - brilliant, I'll never tire of it.
Mark King's tour - loved Physical Presence, and this year's Running in the Family was fantastic, in fact I liked all the tracks, I hope there are some recordings. I was at the Wolverhampton show, and a bunch of people from work were there, I'm so glad it was a good show! The bass sound / tone seems to have improved.

Thought it had gone quiet after my > observations about you the other day. A touch > embarrassed I guess!! To be honest Pete, I've always liked you and therefore I opted not to point out the ham-fistedness of your attempt to retrospectively excuse your (mildly exaggerated for comedic effect but nevertheless sincere) defence of the "if you don't love the current gigs you're stuck in 1984" line with that old chestnut, "It was all sarcastic and you fell for it!" But, what the hell, it's Christmas, have it any way you want it. You totally outwitted me. I'm delirious with humiliation and shame. Well done. > Haven't you got a put down for me liking the new U2 > LP then? Don't tell me you are going to give your > permission for others to possibly enjoy this music > release!! I've never attempted to proscribe anybody from listening to anything - is it really so difficult to distinguish comment from instruction? If I say that Keane are a hideously watered-down, anodyne Coldplay, who themselves are a hideously watered-down, anodyne Radiohead, I don't read myself telling anyone not to listen to them. It's called opinion. As far as U2 go, if people choose to enjoy simplistic four chord rock performed by self-important demagogues who are comfortable preaching about world debt and touting iPods at the same time, good luck to them. How could anyone not enjoy U2's hilarious following of the words "Uno, dos, tres" with "catorce"? Has me in stitches every time. Thinking about it, you're right that I should not pass critical comment on anything. Everything has merit, everything that everybody enjoys is wonderful, everything that everybody says here makes perfect sense and is well reasoned and argued. What a blissful Utopia this is where we are all absolutely right about everything all of the time. > 5. Hand over your Level 42 fan card....... > From: Michael T. Payne > > Gosh, where to start...... Well if you call the > period between the end of L42 and the start of GMK > 'fruitful' then maybe that needs to be looked into, > no doubt the community was able to 'come together' > but as far as material of any live performances from > any member - THERE WERE ZERO! But that's exactly the point he was making. Initially you made the comment that without Mark King performing, this forum would cease to exist; Laurence countered that there wasn't much evidence for this given that one of the most productive times in the digest's history was precisely that period when nothing whatsoever was happening (the digest archives provide adequate evidence of this, if anyone is sad enough to require proof). It's hard to argue with a man who takes his opponent's strongest points and adopts them as his own. As Tom insightfully put it yesterday "Sadly, the activities of Mark King are getting to be irrelevant to the existence of this digest". He's right. How many of the people who were motivated enough to go to the gigs commented on them? Of those who did, there were more crestfallen reactions than positive ones, and given that those positive ones were often from people who felt starved of anything L42 related, one wonders whether MK shouldn't bite the bullet next time and try to take this tour over to the States for a few weeks to find an audience to whom this is all spangly new rather than disappointingly stale. | >Is it just me, or can anybody else spot a teensy weensy problem with these two statements? Loz, I'm highly >impressed by your ability to rate the current performances by GMK/L42 as having "no creativity at all" and "not >exceptional" without actually going to them. I went to loads of 'Mark King' tours, and loved them a great deal. Although slightly peeved that Mark (dropped the drummer and) renamed his band 'Level 42' I naturally went along to the tours as 'Level 42'. I soon got turned off by the endless replaying of old hits, but kept the faith for, what, four tours - I really did give Mark a chance. But after Sheffield last year, I decided not to go to any more. So I've made my decision - if I had to go to a tour in order to decided whether or not it was good enough to warrant attendance I'd need a time machine to make sense of it all. As I said, I'll happily sit on my perch chirping away about how naff ALL 80s retro bands are, but I'd much rather discuss Level 42 1980-1994, music I still listen to and still rate very highly.
