Hi Jennifer
No, what gave you that impression!!
On here you have to hate Mark King for still
touring doing old songs.
Worship the Gould boys and Mike Lindup
ONLY.
Hate all the members of the current band and
think that they are second rate musicians who
really should just stick to busking on the underground.
Love Steely Dan.
Shame to hear the band are not doing too much of
a different set from last year although in their defence this is only
a very short tour this time.
Hope that means they are going to have a go at
recording some new material, that would be really interesting.
Enjoyed watching the bands reunited series recently
on vh1. Interesting to see so many bands who had fall outs get back together and
bury their old differences.
What a challenge for vh1 Level 42 would
be
It would be good to hear a Mike Lindup vocal album.
Conversations isn't really my thing as a whole album though there are some nice
pieces on the CD. Changes was a really good album although I don't put it
on half as often as other Level 42 albums.
Same with Influences though from Mark which just
doesn't quite excite and I hardly ever play.
I play One Man and Trash more, interestingly enough.
Just moved to new offices and set up a Record
Player which I just don't get around to playing at home. Interesting to put some
of the old vinyl on. There certainly is a different punchier sound from records
it seems like, though I hate the pops and crackle that you inevitably get. Have
to start working through all the old vinyl now which should be fun. Maybe I'll
whack on Influences and get a new feel for it.
All those going to gigs enjoy them, still great to
hear some top tracks done Live.
cheers
Pete

It's as if God answered my prayers... Level 42 put on a fantastic show. I dunno what the guy that saw the Cambridge show was talking about but it was obvious from the beginning of the performance that Mark & company came to play! They really 'put their back into it' as we say in hip-hop lingo. Éyes Waterfalling' , 'True Believers", "TCOY" and others were great to hear.
Just like in the 80s, several devoted fans waited backstage to meet Mark and get photos/autographs. Level 42 were all gracious backstage. A credit to musicians, actually.
It was also nice to meet a few fellow Digest readers... can't quite recall the names, I was at the pub before the show ;-).

Hello all,
Just found this excellent forum – great to see it and I look forward to sharing my pleasure of Level 42 with other likeminded fans of Mark and the boys!
I just wanted to pass a few comments about the Blackburn concert last Monday evening. I, like many others on the forum, was a little disappointed that this seemed to be much of a re-run of the November 2003 show that I saw at The Lowry in Manchester with much of the same lighting and almost exclusively the same songs. While I appreciate that most of us go and see Level 42 for all the “knackered old songs” (quote Mark King), it would be good if they played a selection of any new material that they are working on (surely they must be working on some – Mark and the guys are such talented musicians, surely they cannot just be concentrating on the “knackered old stuff”).
I would also like to know if anyone else was at the Blackburn concert and can tell me who that god awful trio ‘warm-up’ act were? They were absolutely terrible – just three random lads randomly plinking-plonking, one at an organ, swinging his head like Stevie Wonder, another on a guitar and the third so memorably doing something, I cannot remember! No words – just awful, awful row! Are they the official warm-up band or just some local band from the Blackburn area who turned up on the night!
All the best and enjoy the music! Richard |
