Not to downplay it, but all it takes is practice.

(and if learning, certainly start with something like
"Love Meeting Love" and not "True Believers," or Rush
tunes, or Primus tunes)

Just as some may find it pretty darn difficult to
figure out of to hold wooden sticks in your hands and
pedals under your feet -such as yourself- and utilize
different attacks, let alone different time signatures
(if desired).

Now come on, we're generally bored here, fess up and
tell us why it took you 4-5 years to watch the damn
thing...

Phil Jarvis is a straight-up bloke, don't doubt that for a moment.  Are you absolutely certain you gave him the correct address?

>I can't help but wonder. Right now, is there a Duran Duran digest full of
people bitching and complaining about how the band only plays their hits
and not the obscure material?

The difference is Duran Duran are comprised of their original members. Try reading old copies of the digest when Level 42 was still together – the environment was quite different.

I should probably expound a bit on my 'just takes
practice' comment (see, I try to be short-worded but
it usually doesn’t work); that was partially
cross-pollinated from a like-themed thread on the
Web-Thing. Reading it alone here it probably just
comes off as a ‘jay just hates MK.’

All I meant was that if one can find harmony within
one’s voice and has the ability to play an instrument,
merging the two should not be so difficult.
Some say learn both at the same time in slow-mode, I’d
say learn (in this case) the bass line so that it’s a
second nature thing; you don’t have to think about
what you’re playing. Add vocs, which you also have
already worked out solely.

Many, like Geddy Lee started out in youth bands
probably first working their way through fairly easy
thing ("Louie Louie" anyone?) and work their way up.
One can even see the complexity changes throughout the
their careers. Compare "Love Meeting Love" with "To Be
With You Again" or "Working Man" to "Driven."

In MK’s case, already having drumming knowledge, as I
cited in my shorted post, this kind of thinking
certainly must help. And as be bass-icly became singer
by default, he did jump to it quite quickly.

And again back to Alex, I think it would be a bit
weirder if Simon Lebon (sp?) was touring with a bunch
of mediocre blokes (ok, ok, we’ll give him an
excellent drummer too, but pathetically bury him in
the click), calling himself "Duran Duran",
pathologically spitting out different answers to the
same questions AND touring solely "hits."
But that's pretty bloody seedy...

Also, the chap (sorry, forgot name) who has the new
Tears For Fears, who did they use as a drummer?
And they certainly did get that project together
pretty quick, just months ago they announced the
reunion, no?

Yes, I ordered all their stuff and received it within 4 days (and I’m living in the Netherlands!) signed too!

So, either it has been lost in the post 2 times or you’re trying to build up a little YCB collection…

Just wait, they will arrive.
