Not wanting to disappoint,

But based on everything I have heard about Mark and his relationship (or lack it) with members of his new band, I doubt very, very much that they will have any involvement at all in a new album – save for making the whole thing look superficially like a band. Not that that’s a bad thing for me. I not particularly interested in the output of the other guys Mark plays with, except for a passing interest in Gary’s work. An MK solo album (which is basically what a new ‘Level 42’ album would be) would be great to hear – but call me a cynic – I don’t think Mark on his own could compete with what Mike could produce (not in terms of exciting my ear). One Man / Trash – I love both albums, but Changes is really in a different league – and songs like ‘Love Is The Answer’ prove to me that Mike can still produce material of the same quality. When I spoke to Mike he said he planned a songs album for next and ‘Love is The Answer’ was a good contender for it – JUST A GOOD CONTENDER? – I can’t imagine what the other songs are like! Additionally, his rendering of ‘Hours By The Window’ proves he can bring Level 42 alive without Mark. I doubt Mark & Co could do to that song, even with the lyrics, what Mike does to it without – anyone agree?

As for Boon and Phil – who knows.

Many thanks for your e-mail.

I'm away until Tuesday, getting horribly drunk in Suffolk. I will reply to your e-mail as and when I can.

Cheers,
Matthew

Hey there,

I can't pass up an opportunity to add my drivel to
this alleged thread . . .

I think that the "Mark's ideas have dried up"
explanation for the lack of new material is just
nonsense. Sure, I merely speculate, but my god, for a
player and writer of his magnitude to just lose
interest or ability in musical composition? I don't
see it.

Second idea - Mark's too timid to display new material
. . . uh, I don't think so. Leading bands into
stadiums and being on the mic, that's not a timid
person. Is it?

Third idea - Mark's milking the past for money? That
crass mercantilist sentiment doesn't jibe with the
emotional and philosophic character of the music he
has written.

So, I conclude, there is no reason why we should not
be getting new material someday. And, if Mark King
wants a writing partner, hey here I am! Myself or any
of the musician/composers on this list would give him
the time, I'm sure. . . :)

Finally, the "Needless Scorching Flamethrower" award
this week goes to (j) who is in fact some incarnation
of Shiva the Destroyer. Do you create as well as you
destroy?

thanks for caring!
