Thanks to all who pointed me in the direction of the Danishway website, for the Mike Lindup BBC radio 2 interview, which was fantastic although shorter than I thought it'd be.
Mike's version of SOMETHING ABOUT YOU was stunning, much like the version he performed in Brighton 1999 Komedia.
I love it when a song is stripped down to one instrument and vocal - really breathes new life into it.
One of the best examples of this type of appraoch is when Crowded House re-worked PRIVATE UNIVERSE to devastating effect on their AFTERGLOW album.
Mike hinted he may do this with more Level material in the future - let's hope so.

Okay, I do not want to say "I TOLD YOU SO...." but,  after speaking with Mark King after the Cheltenham gig, he did say that he was touring next year (2004) and working on some new stuff.   I come back to the USA only to be told, NO that is not true, they are taking a year off - NOW there are tickets on sale for winter 2004 gigs - hmmmmmmm!  Level42.com has no info at all which is not surprising at all.  See ticketmaster.uk site:

We should get together and think of a title for Mark’s tour – consistent with his cold and flu remedies theme. Ultimate strength maxi tour, Level 42 maximum strength tour, the strongest Level 42 tour available without a prescription. Mark’s Level 42 masqueraders available as an easily digestible powder? Don’t waste your time with more of Level 42 3 minute pop songs regurgitated for the umpteenth time  - get down and see Mike Lindup. Don’t get me wrong, Mark will come good eventually and write some new material, that’s when it’ll be time to go and see him again.

Ebay listings - I thought they were cool, I would not mind seeing them again, it is more interesting to read than those postings from Nightfly AG.... ;)

MIKEY

Have you gone mad Mikey? After the problems we had with The Spirit Is Free CD5??

o, I don't believe I've ever seen any of the videos made around the single releases of Guaranteed and Forever Now, does anyone have 'em

There’s a fan made VCD called ‘Dreams & Visions’ – it’s got all those vids on it – someone on here will make you a copy.

>And I'd love the Ebay list to come back

This link shows all the new Level 42 items listed for every country in the world – a sure fire way to keep an eye on the rarities:

Oh please, not that old chestnut again. One of them,
maybe, at a pinch. On a good day. With a following
wind. And an audience of hard-of-hearing geriatrics,
none of whom has ever listened to any jazz.

<<

Because it's perhaps not as blindingly obvious to us as it is to you, who
would it be, this "one"? My vote goes to Phil.

Well, I've been coming to the US every month lately, and though in the beginning they didn't understand what I meant by 'The Office / brent', word has started to spread. I'm in Charlotte NC right now, and all the expats have it and love it!

However, US comedy is itself really good, some of the TV commercials are hilarious here, particularly for 'Subway'. US commercials are the best. We should get some of that. Not impressed with that 'Maher' bloke though, talks about stuff he clearly does not understand.

Now, back in the UK, SNL is playing on Paramount. Any idea which episode L42 play SAY on?

All the best
Bilal

no one has.

Indeed, intrigued by this I had a look at the listings
for BBC America, having presumed it would be a parade
of the cream of what public service broadcasting,
unencumbered by the need to pacify advertisers, could
offer. House Invaders, Changing Rooms, Ground Force,
The Thin Blue Line, Keeping Up Appearances... You give
us The Simpsons, we give you Keeping Up Appearances.
You couldn’t make it up.

Sure about that one?

All well and good, but the fact that there are gigs
doesn’t necessarily mean any new stuff, which is far
more important to me. For all we know this might be
the Another Three Old Album Tracks Dusted Off Tour
2004.

Incidentally, changing the subject and not that I wish
to be provocative or anything, but American football
really is dreadful. I mean really, really appalling.
It’s a sport for people with a concentration span of
about 15 seconds. Fair enough for the Americans who’ve
grown up with it and don’t know better, but anyone
this side of the Atlantic who pays it any heed really
ought to be ashamed of themselves.

He’s not, it’s being totally re-cast. I’d really love
it to work, but it’s hard to see. The word is they
want to play down the loser element and play up the
Tim/Dawn storyline. Which, when you’ve got a programme
whose very genius is its equal doses of tragedy and
comedy, is asking for trouble.

acceptance speeches was he stayed in character which I
assume is his normal character. That grin is
priceless (oops - an opinion).

Yes, I read a piece on CNN about Gervais ‘mimicking’
his character in his acceptance speech, but what I saw
of it was just Gervais being himself. His appearance
and speech patterns are identical to Brent. I imagine
that after all the positive stuff yesterday, today
will see a handful of English contributors say they
don’t find anything funny in it at all. That’s the
usual pattern, which I think is superb.

And on the subject of comedy, here’s a joke I heard on
Radio 4 tonight:

“Never stand behind the Devil at the Post Office...
for the Devil can take many forms.”

Miscellaneous closing point – where the hell are The
Propellerheads? Decksandrumsandrockandroll was
arguably the album of the 90s* (you certainly still
hear it enough everywhere several years later), so
does anybody have a clue what’s keeping them?
(*Arguing with Jellyfish’s Spilt Milk.)

And another thing – that stupid Katie Melua song.
“This is the closest thing to crazy I have ever been,
feeling 22, acting 17.” 22, 17? Same bleedin’
difference girl! Wait till you’re 35 before you start
bleating on about feeling immature!

Quick, mention Level 42 before A****** K** sends me
another abusive e-mail. Er, doesn’t The Early Tapes
have a great sleeve!

Just wanted to say that we love The Office in our
house - how could you not?! I've got a few mates into
it because it translates easily into Australian - not
sure about American though, Loli'a! And my son Jack
just came back from the UK with the extra 2 epsiodes -
priceless - ties everything up nicely.

Loz, do you want this bloody album or not? I've been
waiting for your street address.

Cheers ~ Mike (Sydney City Milkman)

At the end of the S.A.Y. video, Mark King clearly
mouths:

"Panthers 30, Patriots 3."

Seriously, Eric, the cold must have addled your brain.
The Panthers are the biggest bunch of no-respect thugs
since the Oaktown Raiders and they are going to crush
the Pats with smothering defense, several different
running backs, and a quarterback who's just silly
accurate.

anyways, this may be my last allowed posting, so, See
You at the Bar! :)

and welcome back, Loz! Your expertise is a welcome
return . . .

cheers,
-Tom
