Hi Steve...er., where have you been the last few years, huh ?.....only joking mate.
I think about 2 years ago when Mark announced he had bought the rights to use the name LEVEL 42, if you typed in www.mark-king.com it went took you to the site run originally by Eagle Rock (and subsequently by Paul Hammond) but with the name level42.com. Then shortly after that it was closed down, and Morgan's site www.level42.com is the closest you will get to an official site.
As for the future...who knows ?
It's a year since MK asked for questions for the Q&A, and we've never had the answers.

2.  'Level 42' album questions
From: Laurence Green <laurence.green @ scottwilson.com>

[top]
So the questions are:
1) Does anyone have a single CD version of the debut album with the shorter versions?
When the original albums were issued in the UK - the CD format was not around; an LP and a cassette were released containing original versions of all the songs. Years later with the advent of CD, the album 'Level 42' was issued on that medium. To encourage fans who already had the LP or cassette to buy the CD, they included extended versions of the three singles from the album. These exteneded versions were created for the 12" singles. There is no original CD which does not contain the extended versions.
Just before the reissue project, most fans had the original album on CD, this meant that some of them may never have heard the original versions of Starchild, Turn It On and Love Games which only appeared on the cassette or LP - that's why for added value the original versions were made available on CD through the reissue project.
821-935-2 is the original CD issue
2) Does anyone have any of the vinyl versions of the debut album (original European or U.S. mid-eighties version), and if so, which versions of the songs are included? Ditto for the European CD version.
The US vinyl reissue LP (Called a reissue album because it was released in 1986) 821 935-1 is collectible because is has a different rear cover to other vinyl issues of the album. (I don't have it). According to my list I have the UK LP POLS 1036, which has been released with an inner bag and alternatively an inner 12"x12" sheet, neither contiaining lyrics. I have the UK cassette and CD (obviously the reissue 2 CD set with Early Tapes and the reissue promo CDR) the Canadian reissue cassette and the German first issue CD (which has a 'special price' cover sleeve). The cassettes and LPs always play the original versions, the CDs always play the entended versions of the three singles. Discographical notes: there's an interesting Japanese double play cassette which also plays the 'The Pursuit Of Accidents' album, and Japanese titles on most Japanese releases of the album call it 'Urban Fascination'. The only CDs released (unless you saw an unlisted item) with lyrics sheets are the Japanese P33P 20101 which was resissued POCP 2147. As a general rule, Japanese record companies translate lyrics by ear onto the page and they are often erroneously reproduced.

3) If all original versions of the LP and cassette contained the shorter versions, does anyone know who made the decision to include the longer versions of these three songs on the CD?
As I said earlier, it was to give added value to the CD and encourage fans who already had the LP or cassette, but perhaps didn't have the 12" versions of the singles.
4) What about the origins of these longer mixes? I have a 12" single from Polydor that contains remixes of 4 different songs, each from a different artist (i.e. one song per artist), and I'm fairly sure that the version of the track from Level 42 (Starchild) is the same version that's included on the version of the debut album I have.
They come from the 12" singles.
5) Is the CD version I have of the debut album rare/sought after by anyone? I see copies around in used bins occasionally and could pick one up if someone is looking for one.
I doubt it. According to my discography there is no US issue of the CD. Check where the CD says it was made (probably West Germany). If it says it was made in the US - do let me know.

Hope that helps.

Anyone got any early badges they want to sell me - or long box CDs?

3.  Praline Despair

Oi! Why did I even mention it?

First, some background. Back in the heady days of 1987, I spent most of my
time playing and writing music. One particular epic which flowed from my
pen is called Glance of a Stranger. A typical mid-20's
where-is-my-true-love sort of piece. Alas, I had just broken up with my
long-time (it seemed at the time, you know how it is) girlfriend, and the
bassist in my band and I were sitting around working on Glance. The
atmosphere was well lubricated, the air was nearly opaque, and the wee
hours of the morning had already come and gone. The point being, we were
getting extremely silly.

So Norm, my bassist, knowing that I needed a good cheering up, started
singing alternative lyrics to my well-honed masterpiece. Things quickly
spun out of control (er, well, _more_ out of control), and the result was
Praline Despair.

So here, in its wildly-inaccurate-to-the-original-'cause-it-was-so-long-ago
form, is the song. The verse is alterations on Em to Dm. Think brisk and
moody late-summer evening at dusk; a young man with a breaking heart drifts
listlessly through the park and is pulled from his navel-gazing by a
familiar aroma...

[Vamp Em to Dm to set the mood]

[Verse]
i could smell the ice cream
you had a cone somewhere
a cool breeze blew through the nibbling night
praline scented the air

[Chorus]
i could tell by the look on your face
i could hope, but couldn't pretend
sometimes a scoop from a stranger
can lead to a cone with a friend

[Verse]
went to baskin robbins
to find my flavour there
thought i sensed, i sensed a bucket
hiding somewhere

[Chorus]
i can tell by the taste on your tongue
i can hope, yeah, i can pretend
sometimes a scoop from a stranger
can lead to pralines with a friend

(c) A Friesen, N Hacker 1987-2003

Okay, okay, so it's not quite up there with the Black Knight bit in terms
of hilarity. Hard to get the mood across in text only. But you asked!

It's been a hectic few days, which is why I didn't post this on Friday :-)
In 1996 I met my wife-to-be Laurel on this Level 42 Digest (some Digesters
might (or might not ;-)) remember how much fun the wedding was in Vega$
in '98)
Now in 2003, I am proud to introduce Andrew Flynn Mueller (6 lbs 2 oz) and
Owen Patrick Mueller (5 lbs 8 oz) born Friday October 10th 2003 at
