Well, the lack of postings and serious chat has obviously dwindled to the
point of almost nothing on here now, and it's a shame, it really is.
You will have noticed though, that people DO still care about Level 42 and
the music, and in that respect not much has changed.
Just go back to last month or so, when folks were posting their top 20
artists lists etc...and with something interesting to chat about it brought
a lot of people back out of the woodwork again. It was fun, just like the
old days of the digest again, if only for a few days.
Most of the verbal sparring that used to happen here is now being done on
the web digest, and a quick look at the bottom of the email digest each
day will show that lots of different threads are still being debated, just
that it's going on over there and not on here.
Personally, I prefer the email version, as I just don't have the time to
trawl through all foliage that clutters the web version. real time
conversations back and forth etc...not knocking the web version but i just
prefer this one. I miss the days of AG and Friesen trading friendly insults
back and forth, and people like Loz and others who provided tidbits of
news/updates, all peppered with humour. I think back to the late 90's and
there was a real buzz about the digest and the whole L42 world, and it just
seems now that all momenum and excitement has pretty much gone, and that
some folks have drifted away , others have gone to the web digest. But it
does feel like a scattered community which it didn't a few years ago.
Still, as someone else said, let's hope the end of year tour (could be some
decent set list suprises i'm hearing) and Mike's new album generate some
postings on here again. It's so deflating getting an empty digest each day -
I guess the digest is just a blank sheet of paper and it's only what we make
it.

best to all

Dean

If there is a God why does he let so many terrible things happen?

Good question by AG yesterday.
I would reverse it around initially and say if terrible things didn't happen then why would we need God?

That's the main point of it as far as I can see.
As a Christian can I still put my faith and trust in God even when something terrible happens to me or someone I know. What about when I see the injustice and evil that goes on around the World.
It's a huge test admittedly and do I struggle sometimes but I can't escape what I believe to be the truth.
For certain I know that this World was created and did not just happen by a 'big bang'. I also believe that Jesus Christ was exactly who he said he was

That's my personal belief anyway

cheers

LEVEL 42 DIGEST
First, I would like very much to see this mailing list continue despite the current lack of new news and music - if we could weather the storm from 1994-1998 with little or no news - then we can surely manage this storm.   I am not slamming the web digest at all, but some like myself, do not have the time to manage through all the headings, and sub-headings, and replies that the web digest generates - some, like myself, like this digest forum as it is short and to the point - and any major news and announcements usually appears on both digests.   AND some do not have internet access - only e-mail.  I appreciate those who have administered and produced the web-digests and this digest (ERIC) - as it is much better than nothing at all - and it still serves a great service to those who still care about following Level 42, their fans, and the other artists mentioned periodically.

NEW CONTEST (SET LIST 2003 CONTEST)
Please e-mail me at michael @ journeyhouse.com with your guess at the upcoming Level 42 Ultimate Tour 2003 set list, all submissions due by Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at 6:00PM Central US Time (00:00 GMT October 15, 2003).  GOOD LUCK!  The set list order will not  matter, just looking for tracks, in the event of a tie, the set list order will be used to break the tie.   Only those submissions e-mailed to me directly will be considered, ones appearing on the digest will not be counted.  THE WINNER WILL RECEIVE A SPECIAL LEVEL 42 SURVIVAL PACKAGE, not available anywhere - trust me - I put it together!  GOOD LUCK!     DISCLAIMER:  (Those who may already know what the set list is or parts of it, via association with certain band members are not eligible) One entry per digester please.   The final results, winner,  and submissions will be posted to this digest for open inspection of results and for fairness.

FIRE & FREE YOUR SOUL
Who out there really knows the truth about these two tracks - I have heard, mainly rumours, that these were not written by L42 and were submitted to them by RCA/BMG for consideration - to which L42 rejected.  I also heard that these tracks were written after the Guaranteed album, but prior to Forever Now - does anybody have the straight facts regarding these tracks, no speculation please!  Also, has anybody created any MIDI files of these tracks or remixed them - please let me know - would love to hear them!

THANKS!

MIKEY

Friends and Neighbors,

May I chime in on the current thread, how lacking in
threads it has been? After much deliberation, I would
say, yes. Not much going on.

Whew! Got that off my chest!

We are getting older? Yes. And old people have learned
to shut their yaps if nothing is worth commenting on.
Seriously, if Mark just plays another Greatest Hits
and Misses tour in England again, then what a brick
wall the man has run into. For pity's sake, bring it
to the States!

That notwithstanding, AG has stirred up a hornets'
nest with his provocative hand-grenades disguised as
topics. . .

> [Cue tumbleweed.]
The wrangler has dozed off.

> Manufactured bands – they’re not so bad.
Yes'm, but some of them could sing better and record
their guitars with more punch!

> If there is a God why does he let so many terrible
>things happen?

and

>The United States – global liberator or burgeoning
>fascist state imposing
>its values on an unwilling world by force?

The condensed question: If The United States is God,
then why does it make so many terrible liberations
happen?

>Avril Lavigne – chirpy teenage poppet or spawn of >
>Satan?
(cue tumbleweed)

>If boxing has weight divisions, why doesn’t
>basketball have height
>divisions?
and porn movies should have length divisions.

>Since language has no inherent meaning all
>communication is basically
>fraudulent, and as a result we are all destined to a
>life of worthless
>misunderstanding and will die alone and unfulfilled.
Duh!

>Dogs should all be exterminated.
No, just make their careless owners eat the dog poop
they left in your front yard or public park. Sort of
Koranic, in a way.

Back in my hole now,

Driving down the street the other day I passed a guy walking down the
sidewalk with the numbers 42 tattooed across the back of his neck. It gave
me pause... And for the sheer novelty and because there seems very little
else to talk about around here these days I thought I'd share.
