Hi Jennifer

Think you were sitting just behind me as I was in the front row. Glad
you really enjoyed it, wish I knew you'd come over from the States
I'd have said hi. It was a great night, wasn't it, really enjoyed it.
Wouldn't worry about the folk behind you, if you can't go to a concert
and enjoy it you shouldn't be there. If folk are standing in front of
you simple, just get up and join in! My wife was supposed to come with
me
but couldn't make it so I'd to persuade a mate who wasn't a L42
fan....but soon was! Anyone know who the guy was in the denims who came

the front when Mark announced it was time to do so. What a dancer
-)....

Cheers

Ricky

[ <#top> top] I just wanted to tell all that I thoroughly enjoyed the
Glasgow gig last Tuesday! I and about 10 other fans waited for 2 hours
outside for Mark to come out. He autographed my tour program and I got
two pictures with him. He was very kind and seemed to be impressed that
I came to see them all the way from the States. I thought it a
curiosity that I was the only Black person in the whole audience,
because what Level 42 play is Black music. I am sure that I annoyed the
people sitting behind me because I was dancing my ASS off at the show!
If I had known where York and Newcastle are, I would have gone to see
the band there, as well... I could list the songs the band did... but
that would spoil the fun. I didn't know it was possible, but because of
Mark's wonderful attitude, I am more of a Level 42 fan than I was before
the concert. It was an excellent show, so go see it!!! "...answers on a
postcard please..." --Jennifer

2.  What is your favorite L42 demo track?

I must say that of all the unreleased demo tracks I've heard, I can never get enough of "Free Yourself". I still get a kick out of it. OK maybe favorite is not quite the word, but I do love that song.

So what's your favorite demo track?

3.  Discography question #7

This is kind of a follow-up to my previous question about THE EARLY TAPES. According to the booklet in the 2000 LEVEL 42/EARLY TAPES double CD set, the single for 'Love Meeting Love' was released on Elite Records (Dazz 5 according to Lisa Harding's list of 12" singles in the July 1991 issue of the newsletter), and I know from the Digest that there's also a rare 12" of 'Sandstorm' (Dazz 4) also released on Elite. As far as I knew though, those were the only singles released by Elite, and there was never a full version of the album released on the label. Going back to the 2000 booklet, it goes on to say that Polydor rereleased "Love Meeting Love', then '(Flying on the) Wings of Love', and then ultimately the full album.

So here's where I get confused: I was listening to the Gillingham CD tonight, and Mark made a few comments that didn't seem to track with established facts. He mentions just before performing 'Wings of Love' that it was their previous single, and just before 'Forty Two', he says that it's the B-side to their next single 'Love Games' (which according to Mark was coming out "on the 27th"). So far, this seems to place the band in early 1981 after having been signed with Polydor for a bit, who in turn had already released the two aforementioned singles (Love Meeting... & Flying On The...). The 2000 booklet says 'Love Games' was released as a single in March '81 (which means the Gillingham gig was sometime that same month), and the full album in August of that same year. So how is it that at the end of the show, Mark says that '88' is from their forthcoming album on Elite Records? I thought they were out of the picture by this point.

Full of questions, I am...

Later,

Chris L.
