"fair enough but
everything just seems so negative or aggressive from you.I
just dont like the way you get aggressive with other Level 42 fans that are only putting their point of veiw across,you also criticise their English,some people are dislexis and can do without a pompous attitude towards them.When we are writing our e-mail it is not an open invitation for you to mark it.". What about those
who dont have English as their native language; sometimes for me ( Dutchie) it
is hard to explain what i mean simply because i dont know how to translate it.
Even with a dictionary you get the most stupid
sentences.
Remember an
occasion when i was in the RNN and some tech-guy asked a UK supplier
for a "sweetwatersnake"
( to load drinking
water)i s it fresh water hose ? What about this dutch guy Dick ( who
worked in the galley)who introduces himself to a young lady as follows : Hello
my name is Dick and i am a Cock" ( in dutch a cook is pronounced as cock;
written as "kok".)
H ilarious

| Big thanks to Carl for putting up that World Machine interview on his www.forevernow.com site, and to Chris Lawless for supplying it for out listening pleasure. Has anyone else had a listen to the interview ?, the interviewer seemed to cover the same ground a lot, but Mark was very relaxed and friendly as usual. The most fascinating part was Mark explaining about how they spent extra time in pre-production with the songs that were created out of the WM sessions, and how they were able to " live " with them longer to ensure they got it right. Obviously something they didn't have time for when it came to SATS ! I think Mark mentioned about 20 songs, which were whittled down to the final 10 that made the album ( 9 + Dream Crazy). It would have been great to have had HELL on the album, but then again I guess it doesn't fit the mood of the whole project. Hell is a fantastic track though, no-one really talks about it much on here, it's a bit of a 2nd ESSENTIAL, a real showcase for every instrument. Dean | ||

| Forgive the momentary solipsism, but wasn't the entire Digest yesterday about me? Can't somebody find something a bit more interesting to write about? >3 - Holding our breath >From: DonZipf @ aol.com < DonZipf @ aol.com> > >That much I'll agree with. I could understand fans holding their >breath--and their opinions--until the current line-up has a chance to >release their own album, which will result in them either being legitimized >as "Level 42" or in them being run out of town on a rail for disgracing the >good name. But all the criticism at this point is premature. Indeed it is, but so is the "we must love everything which bears the name Level 42" hagiography. In fact, almost any opinion on the all-new Level 42 is irrelevant until they actually do something. Let's all go into stasis until then. >4 - old AG >From: keith ashley < >keith_stuart2 @ hotmail.com> > >But this wasn't the case with the lead singer who took over from Phil >Collins was it? No, but since soon after his arrival Genesis disappeared without trace, I didn't think that greatly supported your argument that band members come and go without it making much difference. I was doing you a favour by not mentioning him. I should have stuck to my negative, aggressive philosophy. >Do you really think that MK has got the band together to just play old >material? I have no more idea than anyody else, all I'm doing is judging on the available evidence rather than surmise what may happen. There are no two ways about it, at the moment what we have is a band playing solely very old material. Nobody knows what Mark King is planning because he tells different people different things according to what they want to hear. I'm perfectly willing to give them a fair hearing if and when they do produce something new. Unlike most people here I suspect that given the freedom to manoeuvre, Lyndon Connah can deliver keyboard work at least the equal of Mike Lindup. Whatever they produce, it couldn't be any worse than Guaranteed. >fair enough but everything just seems so negative or aggressive from you. Indeed, that's the act. Good job you weren't here in days of yore when I had the energy to play it to the full. 90% of what you read as aggression and negativity is, I would contend, banter with people who know exactly what they're getting and wouldn't have it any other way. I can't remember the last time I actually picked on a new boy. Years ago. I got bored of writing the "I'm sorry you were offended" e-mail to people who didn’t get it. >some people are dislexis and can do without a pompous attitude >towards them. Some people are dyslexic, but far more are just lazy. The only people whose English I criticize (and I hardly do it anyway these days – you must be particularly attentive) are a) those for whom English is a first language, and who therefore have no excuse and b) those who write in such an atrocious manner that their contributions become a labour to decipher. We are in the medium of the written word, to fail to make even cursory attempts to render one’s thoughts legible and coherent is, to these eyes, as rude as turning up to a black tie event in jeans and trainers. >When we are writing our e-mail it is not an open invitation for >you to mark it. No, but it's an open invitiation for me to comment on its content, and if the manner in which people construct their messages makes the content abstruse then that falls within my remit. But > all the criticism at this point is premature. premature my ass. We are not talking about a band that has been together for 3 months here. Shall one 'hold breathe' for...what, close to 5 years now? (while this band has been "level42" for, what, a bit over a year now, the forming of the band is what I will still judge by, since with the name change it was hardly like, "ok, boys, we are L42 now, so now is the time to step it up, and we need proper vocals and new output." It was more than likely, "ok, boys, you all get a 2 quid raise and now we have marketing, but everything else is the godamn same".) So, the crit is just as bloody valid. > Let's give the boys the benefit of > the doubt until the new record comes out. Don, what is the expiration date for this "benefit of doubt"? And that would be an _IF_ a record comes out. >If it > sucks, then I'll join you critics. But, if it's > great, you'll have to eat all these bitter words. > The bar is pretty high, but not unreachable. True, while not unreachable, I do think it is 'out of sight, out of mind' (not the concept of an eventual album, but the release of a quality album). Anyone that has played an instrument at a fair level, and then has assembled some folks together to jam...well, if chemistry aint there in the begining, it aint gonna happen with force. I think the lack of creativity in these ~5 years speaks fantastic volumes. > But this wasn't the case with the lead singer who > took over from Phil > Collins was it? While I admit the sound of Phil Collins voice upsets my digestion, I was completly unware that they tried it with another singer. Pretty lame since Genesis basically turned into solo phil collins (but with better drumming by Chester Thompson). Guess the other guys were clinging to the cross instead of having some backbone....but maybe we should be happy there is no second coming of Mike and the Mechanics... > Do you really think that MK has got the band > together to just play old > material? Certainly seems that way. It's not an unheard of agenda. And nothing (no-thing) proves contrary to this. I am really astounded that some of you think MK is 'better' (or whatever) than that... >Im sure there will be another level 42 > album out and Phil or Boon > or maybe both will write on it. I am very afraid to hear of the other things you are "sure" of. With stiff middle finger (or 2 fingers, if you prefer) in the direction of George Bush, j __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! | Hello 42 fans, been away from the Level 42 scene for a quite a while. Great to find an active forum and see the band, although changed, is alive and well. Mark King has a huge influence on my playing. Anyway, I have a bit of a trivia question... Does anybody know the name/source of the intro music the band used for intro on the Live at Wembley video (as they are walking on stage)? They also used same intro music for both live shows I saw in Dallas, Tx around 1986; 1. opened for Madonna(i was there for Level 42) 2. free concert in Dallas west-end district. Thanks in advance. -Jeff | ||

I would like to mention on this, the eve of a possible military conflict, "WAR"! My thoughts, prayers, and concerns go out to all of the US Armed Forces and the International Coalition, some of which are fellow digest members, who are deployed overseas and those working hard behind the scenes still at home for a mission that has become quite messy and divisive . Having gone through this before myself (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 1991, USAF), I know the anticipation and doubt that some may be going through right now, and the daily desire to come home very soon to see family members and friends left behind. I sincerely hope that you are safe and home soon. I also pray that our friends and fellow digest members, regardless of what country they might be in, are not subject to the terror and fear that many felt back on September 11, 2001. I think the only consensus that can be made here and now, on this forum, is hopefully this possible military action will be over sooner, rather than later - with an outcome that will bring the civilized world back together again, in peace and harmony!
