1.  level talk - eehh, no?

j(ay):

phil collins a complete wanker -
you've gotta love it!

re the distant chap with his killed (?) book:
it'd be sooo nice if there really was something
curious to the whole thing. on a positive note,
that is. what if he got details about the new album,
that it's near completion, its planned release date,
an upcoming "knock all the bullshit - original level
lineup hits the road again" tour and other great things?

let's say he was getting on fine with the book, although
not much news to tell. then he finds out about the great
secret that was supposed to remain a secret. ouupps,
said the original four. no tellin before it happens. he is
squeezed with legal mumbo, gets a permission to go
public when the news is out. just to make sure there is
not too many strange rumours going on, boon posts a
hint on his web site.

the author is left with a problem, that he cannot publish
what he knows, and if all goes well there is no real story
to tell. the only rescue would be if it fails and his legal
constraints are gone (in, say 5 years). then he can do
a "behind the scenes - what really happened" tweak on
the story and hopefully get some decent return on invested
time.

likely? probably not.

other scenario could be that there really is nothing new to
tell. so the author simply dropped the idea and tuned in
to the digests.

likely? dunno.

OR, there is really something strange going on. and that's
the kind of gossip / facts that make a digest worth returning
to. so, j(ay), thanks for throwing the glove. all other hardcore
believers or atheists, start diggin!

if we can't explore the subject further, I'm considering opening
a thread where Electric Light Orchestra is the forerunners to
punk and the greatest fusion jazz band of modern age. or that
rod stewart is a better drummer than, say, billy cobham or
boy george.

finally, a comment to AG.
I agree with your remarks about a physical presence from
a improvisation capability pow. personally, however, I have let
it slip as I think the pros in total by far outweigh such cons.

whatever.
do you really believe that "ALL people are generally
very stupid"? If so, I wonder how you get by? I wonder if it bothers you?
 a) you count yourself into the category of "all" people, and are
     not bothered
 b) you live a (very) lonely life, apart from meeting with fellows in the
     extreme IQ club. not bothered.
 c) you live a (very) lonely life, and hate it. because you never meet
with new people, you miss out on the chances to spot new soulmates
(one of the rare super IQ individuals)

I hope the statement wasn't really as harsh as it seemed.
if it were I feel sorry for you.

jonte

It sounds like an album one would make if they needed
to make a down-payment on a house foreshadowed with a
dark irony that one day one would lose that house to
alimony due to hanky panky with the watcher of one’s
children?
Maybe.
S’ok. One of those albums that’s made with the person
saying something like, “I had some things in mind that
I wanted to do that I couldn’t do in my regular band’s
set” which leaves the listener questioning 1) why
involve 3/4 of that band then, 2) exactly what here
couldn’t you have done within your aforementioned
band?, and 3) if covering a Cream song, why choose
that abominable one?

Let us know what _you_ think. Don’t let the shadow of
anyone else’s opinion colour your own.

Mein gott….excellent point, though.
I am continually completely lost on the methodology of
_not_ doing something if it isn’t done right. Yeah,
_maybe_ Stephen King could actually learn some basics
about writing as a craft, but he is happy and content
(and gawd knows the people LOVE it) being a simple
recycling typist (in dire need of (an) editor(s)).
Which is one of the handfuls of reasons as to why what
MK is now doing is a minor travesty and a lame joke.
Show us what you got or pack it in. Starbucks may be
hiring.

Also, the other day I by no means meant to belittle
Dean, or the collector circuit, (if I indeed did) - I
went into a shared lab room in which the radio pierced
me with a rendition of Cher doing “Walking in Memphis”
and it tainted not only the cells I had in culture,
but also every one in my body, and was therefore not
in the mood to try to tone down my post’s ending.
Norah Jones doing “More Than This” currently has me a
bit grumpy, but I’ll carry on with the ivory trade…

everone's pal,
Kurtz

3.  Oscar Peterson!

Long time no type . . .

Aric, many of us have the "Influences" CD but I'd bet
that most of us never play it anymore. Except for a
few groovy moments, I think it's more of an experiment
for Mark King to get away from the L42 sound, and
explore his influences, which sound like Cream and
Star Trek.

AG, thank you for mentioning Oscar Peterson. If you
are wondering what jazz is, go get any of his zillion
albums. He played with everybody. He is the most
prolific melodic improvisor on the keyboard, quick as
the devil, all with tasteful blues and gospel
flavorings. And he's Canadian, which is cool right
there.

Since I am mentioning jazz pianists, perhaps the most
overlooked genius I know is Andre Previn.

OK, back in the hole.
