Or, they are all nicely divisioned for those that
_dont'_ have "hours" to sift through things they dont
care about (monty py quotes, incog tour dates, etc)
and etc.
In reality there are only one or two threads ever
worth reading (if any), but yes, some do seem to have
an enourmous amount of time coupled with weird need to
comment on every damn thing. Like here.

Would be nice, but I think this is well beyond hope.
People will always think that others actually want to
hear their little uninformed/unstructured opinions or
virtual shouts, and even nonsense like what I'm
writing right now (!)

The set list never changed.
Instead of a creative spark in the air with MK writing
out a different set, at least occasionaly (lots o'
material to choose from), he had the list preserved in
plastic...

3 - Wally Badarou stuff
From: Lars-Ove Larsson <lazlar @ home.se>
Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 14:20:34 +0100
[top]
Regarding Chris L. question on Wally Badarou stuff:

I have the S/T to Kiss of the spider woman on cassette. I haven't been able to get it on cd. Wally is credited for writing/performing 4 tracks Molina's Fantasies, Novela Das Nove, Pavilhão IV and The Call.

I also have the So Why cd (I managed to have it sent to me free of charge by a very nice lady at the Red Cross in Switzerland who was involved in the So Why project). Wally produced and composed the title track (featured in three mixes on the cd), did the programming and sang in the choir. Apart from this song there are also a few songs Wally didn't contribute to which are nice if you are into African music.

He also has a cd out called Colors of Silence - Musical Poetry for Yoga, which is like a cross of Echoes and Words.

I don't have the Countryman S/T or Back To Scales Tonight.

Another weird thing I have is the promo CD Video for Hi Life which features the extended versions of Hi Life, Chief Inspector and Mambo along with the video for Hi Life. The original versions are on the Echoes cd. I haven't been able to see the Hi Life video since I don't have a laserdisc player.

As far as I remember, he only played on the three mixes of the title
track on So Why.

He's also released a solo album, Colors Of Silence, a year or so ago.

I too would like to have the Chief Inspector EP on CD. He also have a
few tracks on the soundtrack to They Call It An Accident from 1982.
Is Kiss Of The Spider Woman soundtrack available on CD? I'd really
like to replace my LP.

Mr Goodwin

I must correct you on your incorrect assumption that MK was infact, the 5th Beatle.  This has been argued for some time now, as well as the most recent debates that he is in fact the ex bass player for Duran Duran, who played on the Live Aid single.  The latter was clearly correct, you can see it on the documentary - Mark obviously has chamelion like qualities, and annoyed he was not invited, sent Mr Taylor on a wild goose chase, nicked his Aria bass and did the session.  This leads me to my final assumption.

MK is in fact Terminator 2.  This is the only explanation for how he could have been the 5th Beatle, emulate Mr Taylor from Duran, and also morph to his present state and live parellel musical careers, whilst transcending time and space.  It's simple see, that's why he's such a good bass player - he's probably been doing it before the invention of the Fender bass.  Oh since he played Fenders for a while, perhaps this was a hint as to a previous incarnation....Leo Fender!  Only Mark can confirm this of course, but since some people are absolutely convinced he played on the Live Aid single, it can only mean one thing!

(This is a joke for those who have had a humour bypass, or work in IT) ;)

Best regards

Dave

I can confirm - I saw the programme 'liquid News' on BBC choice a few weeks ago and Mark King did say that Level 42 were initially invited to Live Aid then 'slipped down the ladder'.  I have this very recent show taped. I am not sure who posted it a few weeks ago but he/she is right and therefore their plonkerness is unfounded.

I think you missed something here. Churchill was very good at this; =

I'd be careful with Gold Discs. Anyone who collects record collector will know that you can pay 20/30 pounds to have any disc you like made into a gold disc. I have a gold disc which has very good provenance - but I'm surprised this one is at £100 - just looking at it - it looks dodgy. There are no records whatsoever of silver/sold/platinum discs issues, the only thing you can go on is provenance.

For singles and album sold in the UK, US, Canada, Japan, Holland, Germany etc silver gold and platinum discs were made for singles selling over 50,000 copies and albums a similar amount - often one would be made for the group and one for each individual member. Sometimes several extra would me made for the manager - record execs.

Let's say 8 major countries 15 singles and 12 albums

8 * (15+12) * 6 * 2 = (approx) 2500

(*2 for silver then gold then platinum)

That's a lot of discs. I suspect (irregardless of my calculations) there were actually around 1000 Level 42 'precious metal' discs made and 500 promotional framed items other than silver/gold/platinum discs.

Personally my fave is 'Level 42'  You just cannot beat the sound of 'Love Games' and
'Starchild' when they first came out.  Brit Jazz/Funk was just exploding on the scene
and Level 42 led the way.  As a 16 yr old at the time it just blew me away.

I agree that the three albums: Level 42, SITL and True Colors are great but I have no favorites. I usually think of all their albums as 'Before World Machine' or 'World Machine and On'. Seems to me the real big fans (self-described 'True' fans) of Level 42 all like the Before World Machine stuff the most. The earlier stuff , I think, has the best jams and is less polished(which I like). I can appreciate The later stuff which has some slick songwriting but is very polished (maybe over polished) To the point where some of the songs become bland.
However, There are songs on Guaranteed and Forever Now which I think are quite good.

I have no favorite but I never hear too many call the Early Tapes their fave which is one of my favorites.

How bout this for a topic:
Least Favorite Song

The Chant Has Begun comes to mind.

My favoritist album of all time would have to be "A Physical Presence 1
and 2" In my opinion there is nothing better than L42 live.

But if you cry foul because they are all songs off of other albums, then I
will choose my second favoritist.

  Live at Wembley....ha ha JK

Based on the frequency that I listen to each Album, I would have to say
Forever Now. DOn't know why, it just is.

Ok then get your thinking caps on.  Here are your 5 questions.  Answer them in the forum and I will mark your 'exam papers' accordingly!

Q1.       In what band did Phil and Boon Gould play in immediately prior to Level 42?

Q2.       In what band did Mark King play in immediately prior to Level 42?

Q3.       What instrument did he play?

Q4.       Which member of Level 42 had a top 20 No1 hit in the 1970's?

Q5.       What was the name of the band and title of the record?

I await your answers with bated breath!

You were correct in saying that Micro Kid Live was on the B-Side of To Be With You Again! But although it said it was contained on the Live at Wembley Video it was not. I know cos I bought the video and got a wee bit annoyed that it wasn’t!

So, if anyone has a copy of the full version Live, cos the single was edited and faded out, can I have a copy please, please, please?

I can trade if I’ve got something anyone particularly wants.

Thanks in anticipation folks,

Davy

Just for Morgan?  Harumph!!

There are quite a few of us who own ex-MK basses.  I have the Moon jazz that Mark de-fretted for "Seven Years" (subsequently re-fretted by the Bass Centre).  It's a fantastic bass, which I practice with frequently, even though I own a GB as well..  Of course, even with its Alembic electronics it doesn't sound nearly as cool as the GB, but for practicing alone, it has a really great feel and vibe which I find inspires me to experiment.  See it, hear it, and read the story at...

    http://members.aol.com/donworld/moon1.html

On to the favorite album question, World Machine has always been my pick.  To me, it represents the best balance between jazzy, funky, and just plain great pop songs.  Level 42 would be my next choice for its jazzfunk feel, and Forever Now (Resurgence) third, for its sophisticated pop.

Peace - Z.

It's just you. Everyone doesn't know the deal, that's
the whole point of debating it and the reason I raised
it in the first place ...

Fave albums ... ah that old chestnut ... for me, the
quintessential Level 42 album will always be Standing
In The Light (not a big fan of acronyms). I think it's
a lot to do with where you were at the time ... I was
staying at a campsite at Antibes in the south of
France. I'll always remember singing along to Out Of
Sight on the tour bus p.a. and persuading the local
DJ, instead of playing Relax for the 17th time, to try
The Sun Goes Down ... the crowd loved it and we were
instant heroes!

Hmm. Are you sure People isn't the worst song ever written by anybody at any
time in history? Facile, sentimental pap, a lyric which makes me cringe even
20 years on. In one of his more urbane moments Cole Porter might have got
